American Airlines flight AA3085 from Santa Ana to New York turned tense late in the trip after the Airbus A321 struggled to get on the ground at JFK. As the aircraft approached the airport, the pilots were forced to go around due to an unstable approach. They tried again and went around a second time, then a third, after the aircraft would not properly accept the approach following a system reset in the cockpit. With weather conditions challenging and multiple missed approaches behind them, the crew requested delay vectors to regroup and set up for one final attempt.

By the fourth approach, fuel levels had dropped to a critical point, prompting the pilots to declare mayday for low fuel. ATC immediately cleared the aircraft to land on Runway 31 Right, warning of strong gusty winds and wake turbulence from a heavy jet ahead. The landing was completed safely, and the plane taxied to the gate without further issues. The calm professionalism heard in the ATC audio is now earning praise online, with many applauding the flight crew for staying composed under pressure and making the right call to declare an emergency and prioritize safety.
