Can memecoins be thought of as fractionalized 1/1 PFP collections?

Trying to think if there is a larger phenomenon at play or it’s the same old memecoin mania which returns every 5-6 months. Although every-time it happened before, it used it be one big memecoin like Doge, Shiba Inu, PEPE, MEME and so on. This time whats different is that there seems to be a flurry of these memecoins just like we saw with the PFP collections. Every “smart” person faded PFPs saying there doesnt seem to be much utility to most PFPs but PFP markets kept on growing. What if we are going to have 1000s of fairly popular memecoins?

I am seeing quite a few on @0xPolygon too, more popular ones like OGs @PolyDoge or new ones like SPEPE, GONE etc which are catching the excitement and don’t know what to make of these. The communities keep tagging me in their tweets and I dont know what to do about it lol.

I guess someone on twitter wrote that “value = utility” is such a boomer concept, millennials and GenZ value fun, thrill of speculation and community vibes much more than utility. Being an Indian have always been very utility focussed but being in crypto one can’t deny the power of Mimetics. ,

Polygon ecosystem was pretty late to the PFP party, but it did really well since the PolygonLabs actively started supporting PFP NFTs. Should ecosystems/labs teams be helping memecoins also? I can see some other ecosystems already doing it.
