Speaking extempore briefly while concluding her speech, President Droupadi Murmu underlined the issues related to implementation of verdicts given by the courts. She urged the Chief Justice of India, Union Minister of Law and Justice, Judges and other stakeholders to devise a system to deal with such cases where verdicts are not implemented. She highlighted that the people who have spent their time, energy and money to fight the case for years should get justice in real sense.

All accidents big or small, whether due to act of God or human negligence or organizational apathy is soul stirring. Different human response to it differently.

But at some deeper level, we start identifying with direct victims of the tragedy -- what if I was there, my near or dear ones were there? At these times, even for fleeting moments we get a feel, we all are related by an invisible chord in this universe called humanity.

The boundary of race, religion, gender, color, economic status, social position get blurred in identifying with a common pain & loss.

But this philosophical outsider view is for persons like us who are not directly affected. Directly affected ones feel an unimaginable sense of loss, betrayal, confusion, rage & helplessness which possibly I can never fathom.

Only I can hope & pray that those who lost their dear ones get some solace. And those who are fighting death, come out victorious.

Resignation of minister won't stop accident. Rather it will create an immediate administrative vacuum which will delay the required work of repair, inquiry, rehabilitation & restoration of normalcy.

Railway system in India is old, chronically underinvested, politically misused for generations, unremunerative as business & not really given the focus it deserves as an essential public goods for all sections of society.

Whatever little newspaper reports I read quoting CAG reports (cursory reading), seems track repair, maintenance & inspection were inadequate & budgeted expenditures were not properly spent (as read in TOI & Indian Express).

Possibly these shortcomings are not new and not unique at this time. Since I've no special insight, it may also be likely that inefficiency were higher in earlier times & now reduced.

All I care is victims get adequately compensated & injured get best possible quality treatment first. And fast restoration of normalcy of train running.

Anyone trying to politicize it in any manner whatsoever is a real "enemy of humanity & civilization".

Some comments and responses I see on social media really makes me worried about the sanity of our nation. Mental status of persons, who even in this tragedy is not been able to come out of their entrenched pettiness, dogma, cretinism. Spinning conspiracy theory is sign of sick mind, not marker of intelligence.

Fervently hope, they get their conscience back; their sanity restored. We simply can't afford it any further.

India is a young country with old civilization -- We can show the world that we have energy of youth & wisdom of the old. Are we striving for it?
