@selvecricket I agree Mike. In a low scoring match it's standout batting performances that tend to make the difference. Kane faced 266 balls (33% more than Conway the next highest) & was the only one to score more than 100 (101) in total (Conway with 73 being number 2) for only 1 dismissal.
@neilmcrowther Please, please don't corral people into responding in one way only. Warm welcomes, laughter & sorrow can be, & are, often mingled. Be sensitive to the parents. Being joyful with those who show joy & weeping with those who weep are both found in the range of legitimate responses.
@AddictedStress @RogerMiles@TraffordLj@gorbalsgoebbels It is & it does work. Reading the novel makes the furore about Pasternak's Nobel Prize more comprehensible. Described by a senior figure in the Soviet Union as a "libel against the USSR", it becomes clear why it wasn't published in Russia until 1988. Thanks for the Bulgalov tip.

@RogerMiles Alongside Levi, lies Vasily Grossman's staggeringly brilliant novel, "Life and Fate". See also: "A Writer At War: Vasily Grossman with the Red Army 1941-1945". Grossman is one of the greatest journalists that's ever lived.
@CormacRussell Thanks Cormac. The welcome of others is critical. I think of nations about which people say: our nation has been & is being created "by us, for us" & is not for "others" -unless they can prove they will be useful to "us".And only then if they abide by our rules. Expulsion if not.
@Dave0fReckoning Life and Fate: Vasily Grossman (writer @lindasgrant rightly warns it can take some weeks to recover from reading it)
The Neapolitan Quartet: Elena Ferrante (Conceived as a single work. Ferrante and Proust have same breath status for me.)
If This is a Man: Primo Levi (astonishing)
@neilmcrowther And I see, from looking at the attached docs, that these paras are drawn from an intro entitled "Why join Department of Health and Social Care?" written by Sir Chris Wormald, Permanent Secretary. My oh my!
@neilmcrowther@KateJopling Then this too: "If you...are committed & passionate about collaborating with ministers & a complex stakeholder group including the NHS, private sector providers, local government & other government departments...to improve adult social care &create a system fit for the future..."
