@KRHornberger Polypharmacology is unfortunately something I think many researchers either overlook, downplay, or ignore. We are definitely in an agreement with your last sentence.
We are recruiting postdocs! If you love chemical biology, if you love using chemical tricks to treat diseases, please come join us! Lab is opening @UCB_Chemistry this summer! https://t.co/AVQsBDLkMe
@GusTheChemist Took me a while to adopt this mindset, but it makes sense for biological testing. Unless the chemistry/yield is important for making a library of compounds, there is little to no benefit in optimizing if the compound is a dud IMO.
@MattRPratt Really nice idea. Unfortunate it didn’t work out as planned. Cool story none the less and as you (and others) have pointed out it further highlights the promiscuity of OGT.
@Chemjobber Not faculty, but I just sent an email for the following position (Asst Prof, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Research Area - health, human disease, and diagnostics).

@mkamariza2002 Aside from reading, asking questions when colleagues are training/teaching you something new (eg why do you do that or why is that important). Many of these little things are not described in protocols or papers nor are they common topics for conversation.
@mfieser7 My PhD supervisor started doing this while I was in grad school. This took up more time to prepare the presentation, but I think the outcome was more informative to both the presenter and audience.
@MattAlteen@cenmag Letting you download a pdf copy also does this. Their platform (and what I am annoyed about) requires you to have internet access throughout your read now.
@Free_Radical1@Chemjobber Switched from Papers 3 to Mendeley about 6 months ago. Started using 2 computers (home and work) and didn’t want to pay more for subscription with Papers. Transferring data (excludes tags/keywords) over was simple and convenient for use on multiple computers. Zotero is similar.
@AcademicChatter Some things to think about if you haven’t already: Does PDF university offer any benefits (including pay) for maternal leave? Has PDF supervisor had PDFs that had kids or is he/she supportive of the idea? Does SO position offer parental leave?
@ATBchem@juhesiit Agreed. Chemical structures mean little to some of my biol colleagues (and other researchers) and I think this will be useful to distinguish between some of the fluorogenic probes I am working on.
@samcema @juhesiit Just tested. I have no issue pasting colour filled structure directly from ChemDraw on MacBook Pro and Surface Pro using Office 365.
While student 2 likely means well, I couldn’t help but think how he could have responded better and in truth, how many of us can do better in similar situations. 3/3
Overheard a conversation between two students in public transit today that made me think of something @jenheemstra once shared. Paraphrasing her - “let’s learn to not take away from others’ success.” 1/3
In the conversation, student 1 expressed how she was excited to receive scholarship X. Student 2 responded with how he managed to secure scholarship Y (a more prestigious one) and how it helped him. Perhaps I missed it, but I cannot recall him ever congratulating her. 2/3
