As part of our efforts to highlight the contribution of women entrepreneurs to Ghana’s economy, I visited the Zonda Tec assembly plant this afternoon. Founded and led by Madam Yang Yang, the company is contributing to the growth of Ghana’s automotive and industrial sector.

I was guided through the assembly of trucks and other specialised vehicles and machinery. The facility operates a Completely Knocked Down (CKD) assembly system, supported by modern equipment and rigorous quality-control processes. I observed tests of braking, suspension and water resistance to ensure that finished vehicles meet the required safety and performance standards.

I also inspected the light vehicle assembly plant, where I viewed some of the company’s hybrid and electric vehicles, as well as its workshop facilities for servicing and maintenance. The growing adoption of lower-emission vehicle technologies is particularly important as we consider how to meet our transport needs while reducing emissions.

Beyond production, I was encouraged by the company’s investment in skills development through its training facilities. I emphasised the need to continually assess the technical expertise required by industry and create pathways to equip more of our young people with those skills. Our training institutions and industries must work more closely so that the skills we develop align with the opportunities available within our economy.

The facility also demonstrates the potential of Government’s broader industrialisation agenda and the opportunities that can be created through the 24-Hour Economy. I encouraged the company to expand its operations by exploring opportunities to manufacture additional components locally. Increasing local content will strengthen domestic supply chains, create more jobs and ensure that more of the value generated by the automotive industry remains in Ghana.

I thank the management for the tour and commend the workers, technicians and trainees whose efforts sustain production. As Government works to expand our productive economy, we will continue to support enterprises that invest in local production, technology and the skills of our people, while creating more opportunities for women to build and lead businesses across our economy.

Below is the law on legal vacations. It does not say that courts are to shut down. As you may see from Rule 4 below, the legal vacation schedule is, by Rule 1(1), subject to the CJ’s decision to give warrants to a judge to work during the vacation.

Now, those seeking to rely on an alleged convention, there are two things we know about what may constitute a convention:

1. The existence of a convention is a question of fact which must be established by evidence of two things, namely, (a) consistent practice, AND (b) opinion juris - that is, the uniform opinion that the practice is binding as law rather than as a preference or convenience.

The practice, as we know it, doesn’t support the existence of such an alleged convention. CJs have consistently, throughout the ages, given vacation warrants to judges who have conducted trials.

2. An alleged convention cannot operate to override an express provision of law. The express provision of law on the matter is Order 79 of CI 47. No law or practice gives a lawyer or our associations the power to determine whether court proceedings should go on during a legal vacation.

Could it be that a serious jihadist is in charge of the Ghana Police Service @GhPoliceService? and that this is the very reason they appear afraid to act against these Muslims and jihadists in Ghana?

This police officer was beaten mercilessly by a group of Muslim boys on motorbikes when they were obstructing traffic at the Obetsebi Roundabout.

Ghana Police Service, if you continue failing to reason and act decisively, take it from me: your own officers will always be the casualties.

When police officers can be attacked and beaten while performing their duties, and no decisive action follows, it sends a dangerous message to the public and emboldens those who believe they can operate above the law.

Nobody should be above the law, and the safety of police officers must be taken seriously.
