A6 The information that I would like to know for incoming #students that will help me as a lecturer: their preferences in #learning / #assessment activities or how to #communicate better with them (email, social media, whatssap, pigeons?) #LTHEChat
A6 That’s actually a hard question. There may well be things going in in their private lives that may have a significant impact on their student lives.I don’t think we have the right to intrude unless they willingly disclose. #lthechat
@LTHEchat A6 my learners are staff. I send out a early 'survey' to share about them - I post a video sharing about me. What their interests are, what they are teaching, what their term will be like. Its optional but I get to know them better & tailor sessions - a little #lthechat,
#lthechat A6 that’s a great idea to get to know what they preferred to be called early on. Sally also says getting to know any special or additional needs nice and early is helpful and although they might have notified the university, it doesn’t always get through to us quickly
#lthechat staggering this week when michelle was chatting to our granddaughter, who told us that at school she is lucky as she’s got a laptop to submit coursework from home but lots of kids only had phones. Much of the in class activity was hard copy but submission was hard4them
What’s the problem with giving real accounts with logons to the university prior to arrival? Says Sally? Because it’s easy enough to delete them if the students drop out or never actually join the course. They used to do this at Leeds Beckett years ago.
@LTHEchat A3 if possible, could you set up 'dummy' accounts before enrolment/send videos from the VLE companies to orient? Some Masters, esp international students often miss the induction,
Offer a more structured walk through and not assume they know that particular platform #lthechat
