“Hello daddy hope,

I received the attached message from @NMBBankZim telling me I’m owing IMT 2% Mthuli tax on my pre funded Visa card that I’ve been using since.

I asked the bank today and they said IMT tax was exempted for visa payments when it was introduced in 2020.
Government of Zimbabwe is now saying we want to collect them in retrospect from 2020.
They’re now charging it in retrospect. That’s not even legal.

Does that mean they can now come and say we were meant to introduce it as 5% and charge it in retrospect.

Luckily I used a different card for most of my payments.
Now imagine if someone had transacted for more and they’re being told to pay back dated tax yet it was exempted then?
I don’t know if you knew about this yet.”
