Ok so, there’s a lot of talk about strategic voting at the moment — party vote @nzfirst, candidate vote National — and I understand the reasoning behind it.
But personally, I want to give both my ticks to @nzfirst. They’re the party I support, and I want to see them as strong as possible.
That said, we don’t actually have to decide the second tick yet.
My party vote is easy: NZ FIRST. ✔️
My candidate vote? My strong preference is NZ FIRST again. ✔️
But I’ll wait until closer to the election and see what’s actually happening in my electorate. If it becomes a genuinely tight race where my candidate vote could make the difference between National and Labour, then I’ll consider the strategic argument. And that is my suggestion for everyone who sees this and is wondering what to do.
So 2 ticks @nzfirst is my preference.
But strategically I can wait until I actually know what the stakes are in my electorate.
Why wouldn’t you give @nzfirst two ticks?
A quick snapshot of some NZ First 2026 policies:
• Oppose the India FTA – says the current deal gives too much away on immigration and doesn't deliver enough for NZ, particularly dairy.
• Pull NZ out of the Paris Climate Agreement.
• Break up the supermarket duopoly to increase competition and bring grocery prices down.
• Break up the electricity gentailers – separate electricity generation from retail to tackle power prices.
• Only NZ citizens to have voting rights – rather than permanent residents.
• Hold a binding referendum on the Māori seats.
• Kiwi Kids Grant – $5,000 tax-free per child, per year, for the first three years for each of the first three children, where at least one parent is an NZ citizen.
• Compulsory KiwiSaver, including automatic enrolment at birth and a $1,000 Government kick-start for NZ citizen babies.
• Develop NZ's own oil, gas, geothermal and mineral resources and strengthen our energy and fuel independence.
• Return 50% of mining royalties to the regions where those resources are produced.
• Create a $100 billion NZ Future Fund to finance a long-term, 30-year infrastructure programme.
• Establish a competitive state-owned bank to increase competition in banking.
In short: NZ resources, NZ infrastructure, NZ families, NZ sovereignty and greater competition in the industries hitting Kiwis in the pocket.
Those who run polls have skewed the real numbers and have done so all year. That means people are walking around with political blindfolds on, not knowing what is really going on. That has created a climate of fear, which leads to a panic situation over the left getting in.
In reality, the only thing that has changed is that NZ First is still rising. Of course it is, because we now have 6 other parties leaning left, with so much in common. None of them will oppose woke, globalism, mass immigration, transgenderism, climate change or co-governance. NONE of them.
Kiwis aren't stupid. They know NZ First are the only ones who can get this country back on track. NZ is doomed unless NZ First get a landslide victory in November. Ignore the fear and the panic. We can make this happen.

I compared our Sept political poll to the poll I asked readers who they voted for in 2023
Nat in 2023 22%, Sept poll 5%
Act in 2023 43% , Sept poll 49%
NZ First 2023 30%, Sept poll 38%
Good Oil readers have abandoned National.
@kaiviti_cam 2 ticks @nzfirst for me. I’ll check closer to the election if an electorate vote is needed to keep the labs out, otherwise it’s 2 ticks @nzfirst
@AppleBear365@Wheelman_666 I’m going to strategically do it when it’s closer to the time. If, in my electorate it’s too close between national and labour I will give the nats my electorate vote, otherwise it’s two ticks @nzfirst

As much as it guts me to have to promote this strategy I'm starting to think it's the only way to keep the communists out.
Split your vote! Save New Zealand!
