To seek a ‘cure’ for autism is to seek to eradicate a large percentage of the population who think differently, see the world differently and experience life differently. This is eugenics.
Another tired yet furious reminder that the most effective way to 'stop the small boats' is to provide safe routes for refugees to enter the country and claim asylum (an act that is literally protected under international law).
Hey, instead of wasting time talking about this creep and his attempts to blame his nasty abusive behaviour on undiagnosed autism, can we talk about how autistic people are disproportionately likely to be victims of sexual violence?
Pretty much everything that can go wrong in a museum has gone wrong this week, but I'm very proud of our brand new exhibition of elephant-inspired work by talented young artists!
The connection here is eugenics if you were wondering
This will open a door to idea that those with autism or ADHD should have their right to bodily autonomy questioned
This has long been the goal of biological essentialists, pushing back reproductive and disability rights
Having begged for a break from exhibitions after last month's mega-install, this week I started planning a new one! But only a little one. A temporary exhibitionlet.
So when you complain that autism or ADHD are 'overdiagnosed' these days, what you're really saying is 'gee golly whizz wasn't everything better when we only had to worry about supporting little white boys with a very specific presentation'.
The insistence that autism and ADHD are 'overdiagnosed' is incredibly sinister when you consider the fact that entire populations - women, people of colour - have historically been denied access to those diagnoses and the increase in numbers is partly due to making up that gap.
Before, during, and after. The last few years have been a slog and I am physically and mentally exhausted, but so, so proud of everyone who has been involved in making an old museum gallery new again! ❤️
This handsome chap is going back up on the wall this week, after months sitting under cover during building works. And I've just noticed he has writing in his ear! 'Painted 1967.' Must have been a spruce-up, as he was mounted by Gerrards in 1898!
