A Movie a Day #38: THE YIN YANG MASTER (2021). Demons and demon hunters battle in an alternate Ancient China where a human/demon hybrid is a misunderstood hero/villain—and also there are adorable sentient woodland creatures and the girl from METEOR GARDEN. It's pretty fun. B-

@stone4031 I recently discovered I dropped out at Season 10 and have begun the long and winding road to completion. Am mid-12 now, and... um... just how fond are you of oft-repeated redemption and/or resurrection arcs? Because that will determine how much you want to watch this show.

A Movie a Day #37: HOME TEAM (2022). Look, I'm as big a fan of a triumph-of-the-underdog cliché sports drama as the next person (probably more), but the true story on which this based-on-a-true-story is based is so upsetting that I just did not care about this one at all. C+

A Movie a Day #36: CRIMSON PEAK (2015). Deeply disturbing historical horror, as much for its inaccuracies (no one in high society would have needed the waltz demonstrated to them in 1887, even in America) as for its ghosts, murders and incest. I did not enjoy this at all. C-

A Movie a Day #35: THE ROYAL TREATMENT (2022). I thought I knew exactly what this movie was going to be... and it turned out to be exactly that, which was exactly what I wanted. It's basically a live action romance novel, but the kind with fictional royalty. Sweet! B+

A Movie a Day #34: LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962). This film is almost 4 hours long, but I barely noticed because I was so involved in this (somewhat sanitized) portrait of a fascinating, flawed man and the political upheaval surrounding him. I get the hype now. A+ (obviously).

A Movie a Day #33: I PROMISE YOU ANARCHY (2015). The lucrative blood trade in Mexico City is explored through the complicated relationship of Miguel and Johnny, who love skateboarding no less than each other. I should have known this film was going to wreck me, and it did. A-

A Movie a Day #32: BTS: YET TO COME IN CINEMAS (2023). My favourite virtual BTS concert experience yet! The editing is near-seamless, and the performances are—as one might expect—INSANE, especially in the opening. Great to see some old favourites performed. Loved every minute. A+

A Movie a Day #31: MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL (2019). Angelina Jolie is magnificent (again) as our misunderstood anti-hero, and this film is filled with equally impressive performances, but the story is a bit all over the place, and I actually got a bit bored more than once. C-

A Movie a Day #30: THE ISLAND AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD (1974). I do not know how I missed this quaint Disney adventure as a kid, but I would have LOVED it then. I still like it now, despite its Victorian era attitudes to class, culture and the like—maybe even because of them. B-

A Movie a Day #29: HAPPY OLD YEAR (2019). Rarely have I hated an MC more than I hate the selfish, entitled jerk here, and no tragic backstory could redeem her. The acting is impeccable across the board, especially from Aokbab as the awful Jean, but I was glad it when it ended. B+
