@AileenMcHarg I am under the impression many vegans are celebrating this because of the bullying that they receive. Constant comments about their beliefs. Being told to just eat a steak. It's not 'banter' if it makes someone feel uncomfortable.
It's creepy to look at the hashtag #girlslikeus and see all the men wearing makeup and dresses, who are reducing womanhood to a set of sexualized stereotypes, referring to themselves as girls. We all know "girls" is used in strip clubs and to refer to women in the sex industry.
@ReclaimQueer Yeah it does. My bisexuality is an important part of my identity. Just like being gay might be an important part of a gay man's identity.
The tiny Island of Cyprus is crawling with strip joints (likely even less regulated than the ones here, which aren't actually regulated at all) - helping to fuel rampant misogyny #BoycottCyprus
@heartpunkk@BurrowingDan Of course, peoples lived experiences are important. But the trans narrative of transitioning from one gender to the other only serves to reinforce the bigender paradigm. It specifically rejects gender non-conformity.
@BurrowingDan@heartpunkk That's something I never said. Gender diversity has always been present. Masculine women and feminine men.
But when you're talking successive waves of feminism, second-wave radical is where you get gender non-conformity. It's a concept that is rejected by contemporary feminism.
@BurrowingDan@heartpunkk Radical second-wave feminism is where the concept of gender non-conformity comes from. It rejects the gender binary. It encourages women to be masculine, and men to be feminine.
Transitioning from one gender to another reinforces the gender binary.
One is more freeing for women
@alisonphipps When the word 'woman' has been expanded to include people with the other kind of body that was traditionally associated with women, we need a more specific way to describe ourselves. Otherwise, we cannot talk about the problems that are specific to our bodies.
If you have a gender identity, please treat it like a religious identity. It’s yours. It deserves respect in the same way as other beliefs. But don’t impose it on the rest of us. It is as crucial to me that I have no gender identity as the opposite conviction is to those who do!
@sharrond62 @ModernArtQuilts @onlyasjack@russellwardrop@ItsMssS@fairplaywomen But what about all the lower end leagues that follow IOC guidelines? Teenage girls will have to start finding ways to get it done, and sport governing bodies will not pay for that. The Olympics are not the only games.
@ModernArtQuilts @onlyasjack@russellwardrop@sharrond62@ItsMssS@fairplaywomen I'm not talking about overriding tests.
If women needed to prove they were XX to compete in women's sport, both rich and poor women would need to pay for the tests.
Poor women wouldn't be able to pay for the tests.
