Jeff Bezos thinks people are ‘vilifying the rich.’ Bro, you’re one of the richest people on earth and 1/3 of your warehouse workers rely on government assistance for basic needs like food and rent. You ARE the villain.
Here is my BAFTA speech in full, with the important bit that hasn't been shown.
Also, a heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported us, and to our colleagues who rallied around us. And thank you to @BAFTA and the judges for a great evening and a great honour.
The documentary that the BBC refused to air - Gaza: Doctors Under Attack - won a Bafta last night.
The documentary shows the targeting, detainment and torture of medics in Gaza by Israeli authorities. The decimation of Gaza’s healthcare system including the detention of healthcare workers is central to Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza.
Amnesty awarded Gaza: Doctors Under Attack at the Amnesty Media Awards last week. The work of everyone involved in making this documentary and fighting for it to be broadcast shows the importance of journalists willing to speak truth to power.

Attenborough at 100 — A Sting Cut
We know what humans think of David Attenborough: the greatest broadcaster in TV history. But what do the animals think?
'British Press' isn't British.
90% of print Media owned by Americans.

Today’s …. This Week’s …. This Year’s Must-Read Blog Post.
I’ve found it valuable in helping me articulate to friends and family what’s happening behind the news stories, and why this is so important especially in election year.
The Maiki Sherman resignation isn't a story about one journalist. It's a story about the photocopy of the Trumpian ecosystem being assembled in Aotearoa. Ani O'Brien is a core node in that structure.

It’s pretty shitty for the kids currently at Uni to have the final year fees free - taken away on a whim.
Many of them started Uni with the incentive of their third year being fees free.
Wouldn’t it be fairer for the Government to honour the final year fees free for students currently in their first and second year?
And then any students beginning Uni in 2027 - make the choice to go to Uni (or not) knowing they will be paying full fees.

Let’s not pretend animals don’t suffer when we farm them. Here’s just one example- “Kiwi shearers facing charges after footage showing abuse of sheep uncovered”

Myth: "I only wear vegan fabrics. Better for the animals, better for the planet."
Let's check in on Doris's annual contribution.
Once a year, in late spring, Doris is sheared. The procedure takes approximately three minutes. Doris does not enjoy it. Doris does not, by any visible measure, suffer from it. Doris is, immediately afterwards, a noticeably more comfortable animal in the British summer.
The fleece weighs approximately 3 kilograms. It is sold to the British Wool Marketing Board for, depending on the year, between £0.40 and £2.50 per kilogram. The shearing costs more than the wool fetches. Brian is shearing Doris at a loss.
The wool is then:
- Naturally flame-retardant
- Naturally antibacterial
- Moisture-wicking
- Biodegradable
- Renewable, annually
- Carbon-storing while in use
The replacement, in performance fabrics:
- Polyester
- Polyamide
- Acrylic
- Polypropylene
- All petroleum-derived
- All shedding microplastics on every wash
- All requiring fossil fuel inputs to produce
- All non-biodegradable, with a typical landfill lifespan of 200-500 years
A single wash of a polyester fleece can release up to 700,000 microplastic fibres into the water system. These fibres are now in: every tested water source on earth, every tested human placenta, every tested rainfall sample, the deep ocean, the Arctic ice, and the lungs of marine mammals.
A single wash of a wool jumper releases: nothing. The wool, when eventually disposed of, returns to soil within a few years.
The fabric being marketed as the "ethical" alternative to wool is plastic.
The plastic is "ethical" because nobody has been asked to slaughter the polymer.
The polymer also has not been asked.
Doris, by being a sheep on a fell, is producing the most thoroughly sustainable performance fabric humans have ever made.
Brian is selling it at a loss.
The fashion industry, meanwhile, is selling petroleum at a profit and calling it ethical.
Reject plastic. Wear wool.
Doris is, this morning, growing next year's batch.
It’s time to rage against the machine. Water protections must be reinstated and strengthened by the next government.

they executed 15 paramedics and buried them with their ambulances. we only know about it because one of the rescuers recorded it and they found the phone in his pocket when they discovered the mass grave. his last words: “forgive me, mom, I just wanted to help people”
The argument structure is always the same.
Leaded petrol: we need it for engine performance. Removing it would increase costs and damage the car industry.
We removed it. Engines still work. Blood lead levels dropped. Childhood IQ scores rose.
DDT: we need it for crop protection. Removing it would devastate agriculture.
We removed it. Agriculture continued. Bald eagle populations recovered. Breast milk became cleaner.
Asbestos: we need it for fire resistance and insulation. Removing it would compromise building safety.
We removed it. Buildings remain standing. Mesothelioma rates began to decline.
CFCs: we need them for refrigeration. Alternatives don't work as well.
We removed them. Refrigeration continues. The ozone layer is recovering.
Glyphosate: we need it to feed the world. Removing it would cause famine.
The script is identical.
The industry interest is identical.
The outcome, each time we've removed the "essential" chemical, has also been identical.
We managed.
We always manage.
The chemical was never as essential as the company selling it said.
OMG This guy is brilliant…
We've got another billionaire who's trying to distract us from their shady deals and tax dodging ways!! His name is Sir Jon Ratcliffe and he's a b@stard!
