A long duration winter storm is about to pound the central/southern U.S. with a long stripe of 6+ inches kf snowfall from the Texas Panhandle through New Jersey.

Forecast models have trended a bit north recently, with the GFS model now showing a foot of snowfall in OKC with a few waves of warm advection snow followed by the peak of the event on January 24-25. The GFS model is notorious for overdoing snowfall totals, but 6-10” seems very reasonable for the OKC Metro given the long duration of the snowfall. Another maximum in snowfall will likely happen in the southern Appalachians from eastern TN through western NC with the longest duration of snowfall and orography.

A stripe of significant ice will happen just south of this snow, from Texas through South Carolina.
