This is so, so wrong.
In the 227 year history of Tennessee, only nine people have been expelled from the General Assembly:
-6 for refusing to confer citizenship on formerly enslaved persons.
-1 for taking a $1,000 bribe to kill a bill.
-1 for gross sexual misconduct.
-1 for alleged misappropriation of federal funds.
Never has a duly elected member of the legislature been expelled for doing what we elect them to do โ give voice to their constituents.
Expelling Representatives @VoteGloriaJ, @brotherjones_ & @Justinjpearson will set a dangerous precedent. It will say to members of the General Assembly that they can speak on behalf of their constituents only if what they have to say is palatable to the Speaker of the House. It will say to Tennesseans that their voices only matter when Speaker Sexton agrees.
Nothing about these proposed expulsions is normal. They are a highly irregular abuse of procedural rules meant to silence dissent.
All Tennesseans must call on @Csexton25, the @TNGOP and all members of the Tennessee General Assembly to protect democracy and withdraw these resolutions at once.
He actually did shoot two people who harassed him then carried the gun around for the rest of his life. A trans icon. My favorite historical Mexican figure
