July 25, 1944: Danish SOE agent Hans Johansen is captured at a Copenhagen safehouse by the Gestapo. He swallows his 'L-pill' (cyanide) to ensure he does not betray his comrades under torture.

The RAF Memorial has proudly stood on the River Thames for 103 years.
When we were established in 1919, we were called 'The Royal Air Force Memorial Fund', and our objective was to raise a memorial to the airmen who made the ultimate sacrifice in the First World War.
Congratulations to our Memorial Ambassador 100-year-old D-Day Veteran Ken Cooke who was made Honorary Freeman of the City of York @CityofYork yesterday!

What a combo of 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 and a Diamond Nine too!
These are the spectacular images from a rare mixed formation comprising Hawk jets from the UK’s RAF Red Arrows display team and a United States Air Force C-17 aircraft.
This pre-coordinated opportunity took place as both the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team and USAF C-17 were taking part in the Great State of Maine Airshow at the weekend (July 11-12) in Brunswick.
Making the occasion even more poignant was that the Aircraft Commander of the USAF C-17 was an RAF pilot, Flight Lieutenant Sam Froggatt, currently on an exchange tour with the 14th Airlift Squadron, at Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.
The C-17, from the 437th Airlift Wing, also hosted members of the Red Arrows team aboard for this remarkable event, demonstrating the unique level of interoperability between the two nations.
The Red Arrows are in the United States for a month-long tour called Operation Eagle Hawk, celebrating America 250 and the enduring relationship between the UK and US – particularly among the militaries of both nations.
For the RAF, 2026 also marks 25 years of operating its own fleet of C-17 Globemasters – delivering troops, equipment and life-saving humanitarian aid around the world.
