If not for the white man that discovered Rhesus factor, Blood groups, and Genotype.
We were literally satisfied with the fact that children who died on birth or still birth were cult babies.
That children who kept crying for prolonged period, were all cult babies that were going back to where they belonged.
That is where the culture of “Naming” came from, that you should wait for 7-9 days and see if the child will live or die before you give it a name.
The white man announces the name of his/her child immediately, here we wait 8 days 😸😸😸😸.
Science solved Rhesus for us and we have injections that help solve this issue once identified.
Your grandparent gave birth to 9 children and only 1 survived, this was part of why many had to marry multiple women just to beat the odds.
Today you can give birth to 10 and all 10 would survive if you have money and because of medical discovery.
But some idiots believe the whites wants to kill them and eradicate their population 😸😸😸😸😸😸😸
Landlords in Uganda are moving fast, but do you know what the law actually says? Most tenants and property owners are operating on myths and outdated habits. Let’s break down the hidden realities of the Landlord and Tenant Act. A thread 🧵👇
I recently did an experiment. I cheated in a monopoly game. I wanted to examine the extent to which undue advantage such as embezzlement/inheritance influenced economic outcomes relative to chance and initiative. I ended up building 2 hotels before the others could build a house (CAPITAL ACCUMULATION).
It got to a place where, I stopped accepting rent from players that landed in the hotels. I instead offered to wipe away their debt in exchange for their land, which was sometimes only a quarter of the debt owed (ASSET-PRICE INFLATION).
The other players could not outbid me for the land as the owner owed me too much (BARGAINING/MARKET POWER).
The more land I got, the more I built. I was barely using the money I had. If I landed in their owned properties, the other players were more willing to overlook what I owed them because after every round I awarded each of them about $50 just to keep them in check (SOCIAL CAPITAL).
And every time I did, I sang about how generous I was (POLITICAL LEGITIMACY).
By the end of it, I owned all land. Had 5 hotels, across 5 prime lands (ASSET CONCENTRATION).
I came to the conclusion that unless by some miracle, you cannot outwit a flawed economic system. Undue advantage has a better compounding influence on positive economic outcomes than initiative and chance (OUTLIERS).
Bruno G, Anderson, Tonali, Fernandes, all on the move when United were the club that needed to rebuild their midfield the most....But don't worry. INEOS have invented a new way of winning the league that's never worked ever. Not spending big money.
I needed to move a sofa.
I mentioned this to an American. He said, "You know anybody with a truck?"
I did not know anybody with a truck.
He looked at me with real concern. Not pity. Concern. The way you look at a man who has told you he does not have a name.
"You gotta know somebody with a truck."
I asked how one acquires such a person.
He said, "You just do."
This is the third time I have received that answer in this country. It is the answer to everything here. You just do. There is no process. There is only the eventual fact of having.
He said, "Ask Kevin."
I do not know a Kevin. He said Kevin like I should. He said it the way you say a shared uncle.
I met Kevin four days later. Kevin owns a truck. Kevin does not own a truck for himself. Nobody owns a truck for themselves. Kevin owns a truck for a fifteen mile radius.
Inside I said: THIS MAN HAS TAKEN A VOW. HE DID NOT ANNOUNCE IT. HE SIMPLY PURCHASED A BED AND ACCEPTED THE CONSEQUENCES.
Kevin arrived on Saturday. He brought the truck. He also brought a second man.
I had not asked for a second man.
The second man's name is Tony. Tony came because Kevin came. Tony did not know me. Tony did not ask what we were moving. Tony brought gloves.
They moved the sofa in eleven minutes.
I offered them money. Both of them laughed at the same time, which felt rehearsed and was not.
I asked what I owed them.
Kevin said, "Buy the pizza."
That is the price. That is the entire economy. The truck costs one pizza and the pizza is not negotiable and the pizza is also not expensive and everyone knows what size.
Inside I said: THE FEE IS FIXED ACROSS THE ENTIRE NATION AND WAS SET BY NO ONE.
We ate on the floor because the sofa was against the wall and none of us wanted to be the first to sit on it.
Tony told me his daughter plays soccer. I asked if she is good. He said, "She's aggressive."
I still think about that.
Three weeks later, Kevin texted me.
"You free Sunday? Helping Tony move a fridge."
He did not ask if I wanted to. He informed me of a fridge.
Inside I said: I HAVE BEEN CALLED UP. I DID NOT ENLIST. THE PAPERS WERE FILED ON MY BEHALF.
I went. I moved the fridge. I have no truck. I contributed only arms.
Afterward, a man I had never met asked me if I knew anybody with a truck.
I said, "Yeah, I got a guy."
I have a guy.
I am somebody's guy now, too. Tony has told two people about me.
He describes me as "the guy who's strong for his size."
I have never been prouder of a sentence in my life.
Calling route charts a road‑safety initiative is one of the most illogical claims I have encountered in my professional experience. Their only purpose is to simulate a timetabled bus service. That’s it. They have nothing and I mean nothing to do with road safety.
Most buses in Uganda have dysfunctional speedometers. So how exactly is a driver supposed to know their speed? By consulting a route chart? This is not road‑safety management; it is administrative fiction dressed in suits, ties and police uniform.
And as I have said repeatedly:
An expired driving permit does not compromise road safety. A driver does not suddenly forget how to drive because the permit expired. It is illegal to drive without one, yes but that illegality exists primarily for revenue enforcement, not crash prevention.
What we are seeing is the implementation of irrelevant interventions because certain individuals at @MoWT_Uganda want to continue siphoning road‑safety funds, and Uganda Traffic Police @PoliceUg are simply being complicit.
Then comes the claim that route charts “manage fatigue.”
How?
On many routes, return journeys are allowed** for distances up to 300 km. A driver who goes to that destination and drives back is already approaching 500–600 km on their way back, of continuous duty. That is textbook fatigue. And when they finally reach Kampala, they enter traffic congestion, arrive late, sleep late, and must wake up early for the next shift. Where exactly is the fatigue management? On paper only to chase the "golden" paper.
You do not discourage speeding using route charts.
You discourage speeding using reliable, calibrated, mobile speed cameras. That's what was used during Fika Salama and that's why it worked. NOT ROUTE CHARTS.
Uganda is the only country that keeps inventing interventions that no other country implements, and then pretends those responsible pretend to be “working” because people are wearing suits and police uniforms.
I saw someone on X claiming that all buses were to be inspected, I wonder how many passed or failed. Most of these buses do not even have no standard seat belts, appropriate glass windows, and like I have said functional speedometers. These are basic visible failure of the tests without tackling some complex pneumatic braking systems and I know the motor vehicle inspection being provided is substandard.
PLEASE STOP TREATING UGANDAN LIVES WITH SUCH CALLOUS DISREGARD.
Bring back the disillusioned men in literature. The broken, the incorrigible, the drunkard: Chinaski, Gregor Samsa, Gatsby, Strickland etc. I find nothing to keep in these neat, comported, suit-donning men walking today's pages. You forget their names as soon as the book closes.
@khad256 We don’t see soldiers dressed for combat and call them doctors. Neither do we see doctors in lab coats and speculate maybe they’re going for a swimming competition.if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck it’s probably a duck!!
