Had a very enjoyable visit today to see the excellent work being carried out at the former RAF Binbrook by @BlickyIan and friends. Really nice people doing brilliant work. A visit is highly recommended.
On this day in 1943 the RAAF's 460 Sqn arrived at RAF Binbrook. These brave young men would travel across the globe to fight a war that wasn't theirs to fight an evil they couldn't stand for. So from all of us here at RAF Binbrook we wish to honor them and celebrate their arrival
Sir Hughie’s citation for his VC hung in the dining room RAF Swanton Morley from where he flew on his VC raid. He said it was not his VC alone but the VC belonged to all those serving at Swanton Morley, aircrew, ground crew and others whose efforts had made his VC possible.
Today we are celebrating Sir Hughie Edwards Day!
Air Commodore Sir Hughie Edwards VC KCMG CB DSO OBE DFC became the most highly decorated serviceman in WWII and on this day in 1943 he was welcomed to RAF Binbrook as Station Commander.
After an emotional day the sun set on the ultimate birthday gift Touched by the hand of God perhaps the sun's impudent fingers reached skyward - i'm home - huge thanks to everyone who made this possible inc our principal stake holder @Airfix @www.firestreakbooks.com
It was a tight squeeze but then so was strapping in - more to come - still looking for a sponsor for 20,000 litres of polystyrene cement - again big thanks to @Airfix for grabbing the metal 🤓 @MrJamesMay@JetArtAviation@BruntyCWJ
