Btw after years spent studying decentralized governance, the most important lesson I’ve learned is:

When you create a power vacuum, the people who rush to fill it most prominently are manipulators and sociopaths.

Power is everywhere and it is inescapable. Create systems that confer power fairly and appropriately to the people who deserve to have it.

This is not an official Coin Center position (at least not yet) but I personally believe the US mint should directly issue bearer-instrument digital dollars on privacy-preserving permissionless infrastructure. The American way of enabling payments would be that no government or company intermediates anything (but for dollars the mint controls insurance and employs technical measures to deter counterfeiting). @rohangrey has written extensively on this topic and in this regard he is 100% correct.
