@JimJ_candid @cmclymer I thought the criticism was against Israel and its policies, not against Jews? Like do you think they’d be protesting at an opening of an Armenian genocide museum?
This illustrates an important difference in how many Jews and many Palestinians understand Zionism and anti-Zionism. Jews (for understandable reasons) tend to think of Zionism as a principle--namely, that Jews have a right to national self-determination in their ancestral homeland. Palestinians (for understandable reasons) tend to think of Zionism as a practice--how it has actually been implemented and what it has entailed for Palestinians. Many Jews, therefore, view anti-Zionism as a rejection of a Jewish right to self-determination, which they regard as discriminatory. Many Palestinians (& their allies), by contrast, view anti-Zionism as opposition to the historical and current practices of Zionism. They oppose Zionism not because it is a Jewish national movement, but because it has resulted in Palestinian dispossession and the denial of Palestinian rights. These different understandings shape the current debate over whether anti-Zionism is or is not antisemitic.
So here's a story of our time.
1. In 2016, an Israeli soldier called Elor Azaria executes a wounded Palestinian militant. Point blank. On camera.
2. He becomes a hero to the far-right and the execution of wounded suspects briefly became a wedge issue in Israeli society.
@wynaliu Can you help me win an argument with my friends? Is a "XXX+____" type category ever allowed to be a mix of single words and phrases?
E.g., In a "JUST+____" category, would IN, ICE, DANCE, and DESSERTS be valid to create JUSTIN, JUSTICE, JUST DANCE, and JUST DESSERTS?
So many Jews critical of Israel are talking about real antisemitism and your response is “criticism of Israel isn’t antisemitic.” Yeah we know that. We’ve probably been criticizing Israel longer than you have. When we say something is antisemitic listen to us
Since I’m not a Zionist and have been criticizing the Israeli govt for years all the vitriol I’m receiving for simply expressing sympathy for Israeli people & discussing antisemitism kind of undermines the claims that y’all only have a problem with Zionism
There have been people justifying the weaponization of sexual violence in war and revolution all over my mentions because “it happens.” Fuck you. You can support a cause & condemn specific actions taken. Raping people is not liberation
