AI reply spam and the whole “inf0fi” culture definitely made X noisy endless generic comments under every post, zero substance, just engagement farming for rewards. From that perspective, tightening API rules makes sense.

But the issue is how this is being handled.
Instead of targeting bad actors precisely, an entire category of apps and builders is being wiped out. Not every reward-based app was spammy. Many legit developers built creative incentive systems that actually helped small creators grow and encouraged real user participation.

Punishing bots is necessary
but right now real users and honest builders are taking collateral damage.

And suggesting developers “transition to Threads and Bluesky” feels ironic. The real problem isn’t incentives themselves it’s poor bot detection, weak moderation, and a lack of nuanced enforcement.

A more sustainable approach would’ve been:
• Better AI/bot detection
• Quality-based reward mechanisms
• Clear rate limits and transparency
• Manual reviews for abuse cases

Not a blanket API shutdown followed by “things should improve soon.”

If X wants to stay builder-friendly long term, it needs to find a balance between spam control and innovation.
