I'm just a middle-aged guy; church planter, missionally engaged, father, small group geek, musician/bluesman known cook, and married to an amazing woman.
Every time the early Christians said, “Jesus is Lord” they were also saying “Caesar is not.” That’s why they were called traitors and insurrectionists and enemies of the state. That’s why they were jailed, and tortured, and executed.
They refused to bow down to any one but Christ.
May they inspire us today as we refuse to bow down to Trump. We are not impressed by Caesar or his towers and pomp and narcissistic power. We are not intimidated by his armies or chariots or weapons. Even Solomon in all his splendor was not as impressive as the lilies and the sparrows.
Jesus is Lord. Trump is not.
Get in the streets this Saturday, June 19, for No Kings Day.
(And check out our book JESUS FOR PRESIDENT which is all about revolutionary faith in the face of Empire.)
We cannot do the work of the Redeemer unless He first does His redemptive work in us. Let the work expose you to yourself. And allow that exposure to take you to the Cross with a heart that pleads for God’s redemptive work in you.
Some believe the threat to Christianity is Conservative Evangelicalism and others believe it's Progressive Liberalism but the real threat is non-discipleship to the actual words and ways of Jesus.
Not a single word in the Beatitudes relates to human notions of what a kingdom is like. Human ideas of kingdom building focus on nation, race, tribe, military strength, and wealth. Jesus teaches that greatness in His kingdom is found in the character that reflects His likeness.
@eh_jamison@Chuckykickass We’re (Canada) already working on those deals. China is already asking for our oil. Let’s not forget that the majority, if not all northern US states depend on Canadian Hydro Electricity. ELBOWS UP 🇨🇦
@JohnPiper “Jesus does not call us to be successful, powerful, or impressive. He calls us to be little, to trust, and to follow like children who know they are loved.”

@Michael180Smith Really appreciate your openness, Michael. It’s a sad thing when people gossip and judge. Doing so well even through pain shows real character and the athlete you are. Praying for your healing.
@theoscarhoole The problem with Spotify is that it does not truly respect the artists. They pay pittance per stream to the artist(s) creating the music. 0.3 cents per stream is dirt. If you’re an artist trying to break into the industry it’s like working all day and not getting paid.
I’ve always thought Brené Brown was spot on when she said, “The ‘cruelty’ culture we see today is about fighting shame with shame.” Shame doesn’t care if you’re Anabaptist or Calvinist, donkey or elephant. It’s a weapon in anyone’s hands. And it doesn’t abate with a better argument, a better performance, even better behavior.
It only dissipates when we feel safe, seen, soothed, and secure. It only dissipates in the embrace of Love.
