One of the broader reasons for 1959 was UK reducing its role as net security provider of these countries which signed the agreement.

The agreement eventually lost its relevance when the member countries' domestic/regional concerns diverged & they saw no value in continuing.

It was US (next, new world order) which eventually stepped up to replace UK's security commitments to the region & beyond.

💥HUGE: An Office Memorandum dated 22nd July, 2026 from Bharat’s Department of Expenditure advises Central Government entities on setting proper qualification and evaluation criteria for consultancy service procurements to avoid restricting competition.

SHOCKING allegations has rocked the Government entities questioning the handling of the allocation of Consulting Assignments in the West in the last 2 years.

United States

Deloitte (2025): Agreed to a $34 million settlement with investors over claims related to its audits of Scana (South Carolina utility) and the failed VC Summer nuclear project.

United Kingdom

EY (2025–2026): Multiple Financial Reporting Council (FRC) investigations and sanctions. These included an inquiry into the Shell audit after the firm admitted a senior partner had led it beyond independence/rotation limits (partner rotation breach). Separate fine of nearly £1.2 million (plus partner fine/reprimand) over https://t.co/U7FQITsxuG 2021 audit failures.
· Deloitte (2025): FRC investigation into audits of Glencore (and a subsidiary) for 2013–2020, focusing on whether sufficient consideration was given to risks of non-compliance with laws/regulations amid the group’s prior bribery and market manipulation issues

Australia

· KPMG (2026) - Whistleblower allegations that staff misused confidential client information (e.g., Lendlease board papers stored and used to pitch for/win audits or work from Dexus, Westpac, and others; also issues involving Telstra, Macquarie, and later Optus data shared internally). The firm admitted it failed to investigate the complaints with necessary rigour. Multiple senior resignations (Australia CEO Andrew Yates, audit leader Julian McPherson, chair Martin Sheppard, and implicated partners). ASIC launched a formal investigation into partners and broader audit conduct.

· EY (2026): Two junior employees (graduates on secondment at Commonwealth Bank) allegedly accessed the personal banking details of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese (and at least one senior EY partner). They were sacked; criminal charges followed.

· Deloitte (2025): Partially refunded the Australian government after a report prepared for the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (related to a welfare compliance framework) was found to contain AI-generated fabrications, including fake citations, phantom footnotes, and a made-up court quote. Academics identified the issues.

Netherlands

Deloitte, PwC, and EY (2025): PCAOB fined the Dutch affiliates a total of $8.5 million for widespread improper answer-sharing on mandatory internal training/exams (involving hundreds of personnel, including partners, over ~2018–2022). Deloitte Accountants B.V. and PricewaterhouseCoopers Accountants N.V. each paid $3 million; EY Accountants B.V. paid $2.5 million. Firms censured; required to improve quality controls. Dutch AFM placed them under intensive supervision. (KPMG had faced related earlier action.)

🚨 NEW UPI SCAM: The "Rogue Auto QR Code" Device Takeover 🚨

A highly sophisticated UPI scam is targeting commuters using Android phones. Within minutes, victims are seeing their bank accounts linked to remote devices without their consent.

Here is exactly how this technical exploit works and how to protect yourself:

💻 The Mechanics: How It Happens

1. The Hijacked QR: The fraudster displays a custom QR code. It does not open a secure payment page. Instead, it triggers an Android deep-link "Intent" payload.
2. The Forced Verification SMS: The malicious code forces the victim's phone to draft and send a hidden, encrypted UPI registration token (like the cryptic HDFCUPI... text seen at the bottom of the screenshot).
3. The Remote Device Bind: The scammers enter the victim's phone number into multiple banking apps on *their own burner devices*. When the victim's phone broadcasts that encrypted SMS token, NPCI systems mistakenly validate the *scammer's* phone as the legitimate primary device.
4. The Multi-Bank Explosion: Once the phone number is bound to the scammer's handset, automated scripts fetch every bank account linked to that number (HDFC, Axis, ICICI, etc.) in a matter of minutes.

🛡️ 100% Sure-Fire Kill Switches

If you or someone you know receives a sudden flood of UPI activation messages:

* Dial *99# Immediately: From the affected SIM, dial this universal USSD code. Select the option to Block UPI or Disable UPI Profile. This works instantly across all banks without needing internet.
* Call 1930: Reach out to the National Cyber Crime Helpline immediately to report active device-binding fraud and freeze downstream channels.
* Check SMS Forwarding: Dial *#21# to ensure the hacker hasn't secretly set up call or SMS forwarding. If they have, dial ##002# to wipe it out.
* De-register Your Apps: If you still have access to your Google Pay, PhonePe, or BHIM apps, go to settings and select De-register UPI Profile. This forces a termination of all external sessions.

💡 Golden Rule of Prevention

NEVER scan a street vendor or driver's QR code using your phone's default camera app or generic QR scanners. Always open a trusted, official app like Google Pay, PhonePe, BHIM, or your official banking app to scan. Safe payment interfaces will strictly block malicious device-binding intents.

This is the story of Prof. Deepak Dhar, a physicist whose work has earned some of the highest honours in theoretical physics.

After studying at Allahabad University and IIT Kanpur, he went to Caltech for his PhD, where he worked as a teaching assistant to Nobel laureate Richard Feynman.

He could have stayed in the US and built a celebrated career.

Instead, he returned to India in 1978 and spent decades helping strengthen the country’s scientific ecosystem.

In 2022, he became the first Indian to receive the Boltzmann Medal, the highest honour in statistical physics.

Now, ICTP has announced him as a recipient of the prestigious Dirac Medal for his contributions to theoretical physics.

Today, as a Distinguished Professor at ICTS-TIFR, Bengaluru, Prof. Dhar continues to inspire generations of scientists.
