The main deity is Gali Anjaneya as his idol was found in an open space before the Saint Vyasaraya discovered the idol and constructed a temple in 1425 at the convergence of two rivers, Vrishabhavati and Paschimavati which has now turned into a drainage.

The temple is named to show Anjaneya has the power of wind. And also in kannada gali means negative energy which is warded off by Anjaneya.
