This is the reality outside one of Delhi’s prestigious women’s colleges, LSR.

Students say they cannot safely leave campus after 7 PM due to lack of safety. Empty pink booths are adding to their safety concerns.

Girls are protesting and hiding their faces because Police and College will call their parents.

After the alleged sexual assault of a minor at Aastha Kunj Park, students marched near Lady Shri Ram College to demand safer streets and more consistent policing. 

In this ground report, an LSR student says the danger women face does not begin or end with one case. She describes catcalling, flashing and harassment around women’s colleges, and questions why police are highly visible after an assault when students have raised safety concerns about these areas before.

“Why, since you are so active now, could you not prevent this?” she asks.

‘CCTV Cameras were not working’
Whose duty was it to ensure they do. Whose Park?
Also was being reported to be an unsafe place?
If so what was being done by the Park Authorities and the local police?
Where is the Beat System of policing? Who is the Beat Officer?
Where is staff of Park maintainance?
Where are watchmen if any?
Failure at diff levels of duty by ground agencies concerned facilitate such terrible incidents.
Girls too need to take due precautions before they choose visiting sites.
Precaution is not being afraid but being careful and wise.
As there are enuf vagabonds lurking out and at large.
Good that the arrests have been without loss of evidence.
