No one understood a composer's vision faster, and no one poured more focus into a song than SPB. Celebrating the life, friendship, and the unmatched achievement of 50,000 songs. Happy Birthday, SPB.
Last year Raaja was trolled for composing music for a seemingly obscure film. There were people who said he was washed out, and had to resort to cash-rich filmmakers' vanity projects...
And yet...
The 83-year-old, in his 51st year as a composer, is working with the likes of #KarthikSubbaraj, #ThiagarajaKumararaja, and #MariSelvaraj... Three important filmmakers who were born after he made his debut with Annakili...
There is enough elevation in all of this, and we can celebrate our Raaja without having to put down anybody else...

Those who have been surfing the ocean called @Ilaiyaraaja for over 50 years through his umpteen songs and BGMs, it's time to rise above it all, beyond our Earth, beyond our galaxy, beyond the Milky Way, and far beyond that, by listening to Symphony No. 1 Valiant from now on.
It's officially out now on all streaming platforms. Links shared below 👇

Death of an Indian tech worker
Banners went up in Nikhil Somwanshi's small village after he landed a job at Ola Krutrim.
In less than a year, he died by suicide. He was 24.
My long-form feature for @restofworld is out.
For the past four months, I have been reporting on India's IT industry, and its toxic work culture.
The industry is estimated to be worth around $280 billion and employs more than 5 million people.
But the reality behind these glittering numbers is stark.
83% of India’s tech workers suffer from burnout. One in four clocks over 70 hours a week.
In Karnataka, tech workers account for a starkly disproportionate 20% of patients seeking transplants due to organ failure.
A study of tech employees in the IT hub of Hyderabad found that 84% had a liver disease linked to long hours of sedentary work and high stress.
Our analysis of local news articles found 227 reported cases of suicides among Indian tech workers between 2017 and 2025.
And the stress and uncertainty is further intensifying with the integration of AI.
