How did I miss this write up by Newsweek? It's nice to see my fight to #SaveLucy get attention from the mainstream media.
Good job, @Newsweek. Thank you!

A teenage boy offered to clean my entire storm-damaged yard for just $40.
At first, I thought he was desperate.
Then I saw the injured dog beside him.
Seventeen-year-old Mason spent all day hauling broken branches in brutal heat without complaining once. Every twenty minutes, he stopped—not to rest, but to check on the stray dog he’d rescued the day before.
The dog had been hit by a car.
Broken leg.
Visible ribs.
Nowhere else to go.
When I asked Mason why he needed the money so badly, his voice cracked:
“If I can’t pay for the surgery tonight… they’ll transfer him.”
That’s when I realized:
He wasn’t working for spending money.
He was trying to save a life.
By sunset, my yard was spotless.
I handed him $500.
He tried to refuse it because we had “agreed on forty.”
A kid willing to work himself to exhaustion for a dog he barely knew.
Not because he had to.
Because he chose to.
People say young people today are lazy or selfish.
That’s not what I saw.
I saw character.
Compassion.
Responsibility.
Sometimes, the richest people are the ones willing to give everything they have for someone who has nothing.

It felt good to be off social media yesterday. Things are in the works, that's all I can say for now. Negotiations are ongoing with the DA. My attorney choked me up yesterday when he sent me an email that was just one line: "Let's get Lucy home."
Amen. Amen, amen, amen.
I spent the day with the kids at the park while @Herb_Minstrel gave voice lessons at home, going over with pen and paper what I had feverishly typed up thus far about Lucy, the makings of what I hope will be a story with some appeal beyond just myself and my little family.
Things just jump out at me on paper in a way they don't on a screen.
I'm writing this as a way to protect her, in my own way, from anything like this ever happening again. She's kind of famous right now, but it's the 15-minutes-of-fame sort of notoriety.
I want to lock that in. I want to make Lucy untouchable. I fell into a trap once that has made her vulnerable. I'm doing everything I can right now to make her invincible for the rest of her life.
If I fail to convey Lucy's story in a way that has broad appeal, then at least I hope to have a personal story to add to our family lore, where it will be valued by the people who know and matter most, the same way I treasure all of the songs my wife wrote me to get me through the terror and tedium overseas.
This will probably be another quiet day from me as I scribble lines on paper, cross them out, work them and rework them over and over - and do it all in those quiet moments when the kids aren't fighting with each other or getting into trouble or making messes and getting loud.
Thank you all for your support of me and Lucy for these past several weeks. It means the world.

Hey everyone,
I’m asking all my followers to
Please follow this page!!! It’s for Lucy #AmericasDog. 🐾🐾
And please pray she gets to come home this week!! It’s been far too long already.
#SaveLucy
This is the DA trying to have a veterans dog, that he saved and brought home from war, put down for the crime of running around her own lawn off leash. Thats all that happened.
DA Cooper needs to SEND LUCY HOME!! There is NO reason to continue letting her suffer in a concrete cage, NONE! With respect DROP THE CHARGES MS. COOPER! #SaveLucy#SendLucyHome
For the sake of Lucy—please!
We can be angry, and we can be hurt. Lord knows I am. But we need to remain respectful. We need Lucy home. That’s it. That is our goal.
The DA is not going to euthanize her—we’ve already said that. There are a lot of claims and rumors circulating right now, and I don’t want anyone acting on information that isn’t accurate.
As far as our neighbors go—please leave them alone. We don’t need to repay hurt with hurt. That isn’t what we’re about.
Right now, it’s a waiting game. And yes, it’s SO hard and feels so unfair. I cry thinking about my sweet Lucy Lu still sitting in that cage, waiting to come home.
But threats and harassment will not help. They will only hurt our cause.
♥️ Please, stay focused ♥️

"I will wear a muzzle. I will wear a harness. I will wear two leashes at all times. I'm not dangerous, but I will do all the things that a dangerous dog would be expected to do, without complaint. Just let me come home."
If Lucy could talk, that's what she'd say.
