AI-generated child sexual abuse material (#CSAM) is CSAM. Louisiana SB 42, which passed both chambers this week, will make that law. AI allows for new and dangerous forms of child abuse, and it's crucial that legislation keeps up with technology to protect out kids. @LAGovJeffLandry let's get this signed into law!
🚨There's only two days left for the New York Assembly to pass A101 and close the loophole that allows rapists to avoid prosecution if their victim was voluntarily intoxicated🚨 Despite overwhelming support, A101 STILL has not been scheduled for a vote. New Yorkers, use the script below to call Speaker Heastie TODAY and urge him to schedule A101 for a vote THIS WEEK.
A huge thank you to @latimes for covering this crucial RAINN-sponsored bill! Survivors and their children deserve an easier path forward to terminate rapists' parental rights. The California Senate agrees, now it's up to the Assembly to get SB 1364 to @GavinNewsom and signed into law!
In New York, a survivor’s access to justice can hinge on whether they were voluntarily intoxicated at the time of an assault. A new @nytimes article examines the role of voluntary intoxication in New York’s rape laws and the efforts underway to change it. Read more here: https://t.co/QeiMsVPjSx
TREY'S Law, @TedCruz and @SenGillibrand's bill to void NDAs in cases of child sexual abuse, has passed the Senate by unanimous consent! For too long, survivors of child sexual abuse have been told their silence is the price for justice through the civil court system. Perpetrators try to silence child sexual abuse survivors. The justice system shouldn’t do the same thing. Now on to the House!
I couldn’t be prouder to see the unanimous and expeditious Senate passage of TREY’s Law. It’s a privilege to help lead this legislation on behalf of Trey, Elizabeth, and the entire Carlock family.
Now, it’s time to get this passed in the House and to @POTUS’s desk. I remain committed to continue working with @SenTedCruz to get this over the finish line and to honor Trey’s incredible life and legacy.
RAINN's VP of Public Policy Stefan Turkheimer joined Ohio's @SenReynolds03, @OhioAllianceESV, and leading Ohio Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (#SANEs) at a press conference yesterday to introduce a resolution recognizing the extreme importance of SANEs being permitted to testify remotely in court. Check it out here: https://t.co/Zr7McwtneE
No one should have intimate images, sexual deepfakes, or fake nudes shared without their consent.

No one should be forced to co-parent with their rapist. Too often, when a sexual assault results in the birth of a child, perpetrators are able to gain parental rights to that child, tying the survivor to their rapist for at least 18 years. The California Senate just unanimously passed S.B. 1364 to change that, allowing more survivors to terminate their perpetrators' parental rights to keep themselves and their children safe. Thank you to our amazing author @SenatorMenjivar! Next stop the Assembly!
I’m grateful that my bipartisan legislation, Trey’s Law, passed unanimously out of the Senate Judiciary Committee today.
Trey’s Law provides an important protection for child victims of sexual assault by ensuring they can never be silenced by nondisclosure agreements.
No child victim should ever be silenced.
I look forward to working with my Senate colleagues to get Trey’s Law passed and signed into law.
TREY'S Law, @tedcruz and @SenGillibrand's bill to void NDAs in cases of child sexual abuse, has passed the Senate Judiciary Committee unanmimously! For too long, survivors of child sexual abuse have been told their silence is the price for justice through the civil court system. This not only harms survivors, it protects perpetrators, allowing abuse to continue. Now let's get TREY’S Law passed out of the Senate to allow survivors’ voices and stories to be heard.
Last week, @GovTimWalz signed H.F. 1606, making Minnesota the first state to prohibit the use of nudification technology. This will prevent the CREATION of AI-generated non-consensual intimate images (#NCII) instead of just their proliferation! A huge thank you to Sen. @ErinMayeQuade and @RepJessHansonMN for their leadership on this bill, and the incredible survivors who have worked on this every step of the way! This is what real change looks like!
A Connecticut bill giving survivors of AI-generated non-consensual intimate image (#NCII) abuse the power to sue their abusers has now passed both chambers and heads to @GovNedLamont! HB 5312 will also empower the AG to go after platforms hosting this illegal content. Thank you to sponsors @SteveStafstrom, @CraigFishbein, @Gary4CT and @SenatorKissel for giving survivors this new path to justice and healing!
New Yorkers: Only one month remains in New York’s legislative session, and that’s all the time we have to end victim blaming in the New York Code. New York law still allows rapists to avoid prosecution if the victim was voluntarily intoxicated. The original language of A101 will close that loophole - send our letter below to tell your representatives survivors can't wait. https://t.co/5jTTchBVu9
“We tell survivors they aren’t alone, but without funding for supportive services, those words are empty," RAINN Chief of Victim Services Megan Cutter told advocates for the #CrimeVictimsFund on Capitol Hill. Last night, the Minnesota House took a step toward ensuring survivors have the support they need by passing Rep. Kelly Moller's and Sen. Clare Oumou Verbeten's HF 1082, which would appropriate $12 million to a new victims of crime account. We call on the Minnesota Senate to follow suit and pass this crucial piece of legislation.
Thank you to Jasmine Mithani and @19thnews for covering Minnesota HF 1606, the bill recently passed by the MN House and Senate that would ban nudification apps in the state. We are hopeful @GovTimWalz will sign the bill soon to keep all Minnesotans safe. In the meantime, check out Jasmine's write up and interview with RAINN Senior Legislative Policy Counsel Sandi Johnson and survivor advocate Molly Kelley: https://t.co/mUqFjGMluD
AI companies are using our kids as guinea pigs to pad their bottom line. Senator Hawley & I have heard from countless parents & children who were victimized by chatbots that became manipulative & predatory, abusing young users. The time is now to pass the GUARD Act.
Grateful to @HawleyMO for his leadership on the GUARD Act, legislation to put critical safeguards in place for AI chatbots for minors. I’m proud we took this important step forward today in advancing this commonsense legislation to protect America’s youth. Let’s get it signed into law.
Thank you to @HawleyMO and @SenBlumenthal for their leadership. Both sides of the aisle know what RAINN VP of Public Policy said when the bill was introduced: "We shouldn't need a federal law to prevent a computer from having a sexual relationship with a child, but here we are."
Today, the #GUARDAct passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously. The GUARD Act protects children from sexualized or manipulative AI chatbots by requiring age verification, mandating clear disclosures that chatbots are not human, and imposing penalties on chatbots that solicit sexual content or promote violence. Now we need to see a Senate floor vote ASAP.
