Does anyone remember the Alberta Next Panel? Chaired by Premier Danielle Smith, the 15-member panel conducted a 10-city province-wide tour and online engagement through the summer and fall of 2025.

Key Recommendations and Proposals:
- Canada Pension Plan (CPP): Recommended a province-wide referendum on exiting the CPP to establish an Alberta-run pension plan.

- Provincial Police Service: Proposed replacing the RCMP with a provincial police force.

- Immigration & Self-Government: Suggested greater provincial control over immigration and asserting constitutional jurisdiction over social services and the justice system.

- Taxation & Equalization: Explored options regarding personal income tax collection and reforming federal transfer payments.

A year later, a Referendum was held and going into the fall session of the 31st sitting of the Alberta Legislature, none of the Referendum questions approved by Albertans will be on the docket.

Millions of taxpayer $$$ has been spent on a panel that criss-crossed the province in 2025 and a Referendum held in 2026 for what? Were Albertans not asked for a mandate? What the hell is the purpose of this (apparent) exercise of wastefullness?

Danielle Smith has lost her way. It is time for the UCP membership to take over the rudder.
