Palash Adhikari was detained in Madhya Pradesh on suspicion of being a Bangladeshi. The police alleged that he was not an Indian citizen. However, Palash presented his Aadhaar card, voter ID, PAN card, and other documents to prove that he was a genuine Indian and a Hindu. Despite this, the police remained unconvinced and continued to suspect him of being a Bangladeshi. The matter was escalated to the court. In court, Palash was questioned :
Name? Palash Adhikari
Age? 42
Father’s name? Ramesh Adhikari
Address? Kashimpur, Malda, West Bengal
The court verified his claims against the voter list and Aadhaar records, which confirmed that everything Palash stated was true. Ramesh Adhikari's father was listed as having four sons: Palash, Subrata, Soumen, and Rahul. However, the police persisted with their claim that Palash was a Bangladeshi. This raised questions: How could this be?
Ramesh Adhikari was an Indian, born in 1962 in Malda. He had been voting regularly since 1984, and his entire family—his wife and four sons—were registered in the voter list. If Ramesh was Indian, his sons, including Palash, should also be Indian. The court then examined the Election Commission’s voter list, which reiterated the same facts: Ramesh Adhikari was an Indian Hindu, and so were his wife and four sons. This led to calls for Palash to be released.
However, the judge grew suspicious and ordered the court to review the 2002 Special Investigation Report (SIR) records. To everyone’s shock, the records showed that Ramesh Adhikari had only two sons at that time: Subrata (age 28) and Soumen (age 30). There was no mention of Palash or Rahul. The 2010 records were also checked, and they similarly listed only Subrata and Soumen as Ramesh’s sons, with no trace of Palash or Rahul. However, the 2015 records suddenly showed Ramesh with four sons, including Palash and Rahul. Palash claimed his name was added to the voter list in 2015.
To investigate further, Ramesh Adhikari’s records were examined. It was found that Ramesh got married in 1993. His first son, Subrata, was born in 1995 (now 30 years old), and his second son, Soumen, was born in 1997 (now 28 years old). This raised a critical question: How could Palash, who was 42 years old, be Ramesh’s son? The timeline didn’t add up.
When no satisfactory explanation could be found, the truth emerged: Palash Adhikari was, in fact, Sheikh Moinuddin, whose real home was in Khulna, Ahmedpur, Bangladesh. Shockingly, Ramesh Adhikari did not even know Sheikh Moinuddin. When asked about Rahul Adhikari, Ramesh stated he had never heard of him either. The police are still searching for Rahul, whose identity remains unknown.
Ramesh Adhikari, a simple farmer from the village, was unaware of how Sheikh Moinuddin had managed to pose as his son, Palash Adhikari. Local leaders, despite being aware of such activities, remained silent. Taking advantage of this, Sheikh Moinuddin had assumed the identity of Palash Adhikari, portraying himself as a Hindu Indian.
For the past 10 years, under the guise of a migrant labourer, he had been engaging in extremist activities. The text concludes by highlighting that thousands of infiltrators like Sheikh Moinuddin have entered India, obtained voter IDs and Aadhaar cards, and passed themselves off as Indian citizens. The solution proposed is a thorough re-examination of the voter list to identify and address such cases of infiltration.
The narrative emphasises that genuine Indian citizens have nothing to fear, as these measures are being taken to protect the interests of India’s citizens.
