I can afford the house.
I just can't afford the mortgage. ๐ญ
The house is $400K.
Sounds doable.
Then come:
Down payment.
Interest.
Property taxes.
Insurance.
HOA fees.
Closing costs.
And suddenly I'm looking at a monthly payment that makes me want to keep renting.
The crazy part?
People who bought years ago may have much lower mortgage rates.
So they don't want to sell.
And I honestly can't blame them.
But for someone trying to buy now?
It feels like the game started before I even got there.
At this point, I'm not even dreaming about a huge house.
I just want a decent place without becoming house poor.
Because owning a home sounds amazing...
Until the mortgage owns you. ๐ญ
I used to think renting was just throwing money away.
Then I actually sat down and compared the costs of buying a house.
The down payment.
The mortgage.
Property taxes.
Home insurance.
Repairs.
And that's before buying furniture or fixing anything that breaks.
Meanwhile, renting means I can move when I need to and I'm not responsible for every repair.
But here's the part that bothers me...
Every month I pay rent, I'm not building equity in a home of my own.
And every year I wait, I worry that buying a house will get even harder.
I don't want to spend the next 10 years renting.
But I also don't want to buy a house and end up broke just to say I'm a homeowner.
At this point, renting feels like paying for peace of mind, while buying feels like paying for a future I can't quite afford yet. ๐
I HAVE A GENUINE QUESTION ABOUT RELIGION... WHY DO PEOPLE GET SO ANGRY WHEN YOU DON'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY BELIEVE?
I mean, you can be having a normal conversation, and the moment religion comes up, everything changes. ๐ญ
One person says you need God to be a good person.
Another says you don't need religion to have morals.
Then suddenly, they're arguing like they're enemies.
And honestly, I think you can have strong faith without forcing everybody else to agree with you.
You can believe in God, follow your religion and still respect someone who believes differently.
But apparently, that's easier said than done.
I've always thought faith should bring people together, not turn every disagreement into a fight.
Every relationship gets boring eventually. Yes, even marriage.
The mistake is thinking boredom means you picked the wrong person. That early butterflies and constant excitement were never meant to last forever.
Eventually, you get comfortable. The smart ones donโt throw away someone who loves them because the honeymoon feeling faded. They learn how to build something deeper after the excitement dies.
A conversation I once had in the gym locker room has stayed with me ever since.
A guy I regularly saw at the gym started talking to me after training.
He was only 25.
For years, bodybuilding had been his passion.
He trained hard, watched his body change and was getting closer to the physique he had always wanted.
Then his mental health took a turn.
He started medication and told me he experienced side effects that completely changed how he felt.
The hardest part?
He stopped enjoying the gym.
Something that once gave him purpose suddenly felt like a chore.
His motivation disappeared.
His progress slowly disappeared too.
And then he said something I still remember:
โI think I ruined my life.โ
I remember thinkingโฆ
Youโre 25. Your life isnโt over.
Sometimes when we lose the one thing that gave us direction, it feels like weโve lost everything.
But maybe life isnโt asking you to give up.
Maybe itโs simply asking you to find a different road forward.
I still think about that conversation sometimes.
SOME WOMEN WANT A MAN TO PAY ALL THE BILLS BUT STILL CALL THEMSELVES INDEPENDENT.
And honestly, I can already hear the arguments. ๐
She wants a man who pays the rent, takes care of the bills and provides.
But she also wants her own money, her own rules and complete freedom.
Some people call that having standards.
Others call it wanting traditional benefits without traditional responsibilities.
Meanwhile, some men say they want a traditional wife but still expect her to work and split the bills.
Everybody wants a traditional relationship until it's time to fulfill their side of the deal. ๐
I used to think you needed to be rich to invest.
Then I realized I was just using that as an excuse.
I kept telling myself:
โI'll start when I make more money.โ
Then another year passed.
And another.
Meanwhile, I was spending money on things I barely remembered buying.
So I finally started putting a small amount into investments every month.
Nothing impressive.
Nothing that made me rich overnight.
Just money I could afford to leave alone.
And honestly, watching that little balance grow feels different.
I'm not trying to get rich next month.
I'm trying to make sure future me isn't starting from zero.
I wish I had started sooner.
I can afford the house.
I just can't afford the mortgage. ๐ญ

I swear my paycheck disappears faster now.
I went to the grocery store for a few things.
Some eggs.
Milk.
Bread.
Chicken.
A few snacks.
Nothing crazy.
$100 used to feel like enough for a decent grocery run.
Now I look at the receipt and wonder what I actually bought. ๐ญ
Then there's rent.
Gas.
Car insurance.
Eating out.
Electricity.
Everything keeps adding up.
And the frustrating part is hearing, โInflation is coming down.โ
Okay...
But the prices that already went up didn't magically come back down.
That's what people don't understand.
A slower increase in prices doesn't mean things are suddenly cheap again.
My income might be going up.
But somehow, my money still doesn't feel like it's going as far.
And I'm starting to think the real question isn't:
โAre prices going up?โ
It's:
โHow much of my paycheck is left after everything gets paid?โ
SHE STARTED PHOTOGRAPHING HER GROCERY RECEIPTS EVERY WEEK FOR 2 YEARS. WHAT SHE FOUND WASN'T JUST ABOUT PRICES. IT WAS ABOUT WHAT COMPANIES WERE QUIETLY DOING TO THE PRODUCTS THEMSELVES.
My aunt started photographing her grocery receipts every single week, 2 years ago. Said she wanted "proof" for an argument she kept having with her son about whether things really cost more now.
She wasn't trying to go viral or anything. Just a spreadsheet nerd thing she does.
Same store. Same brands. Same list, mostly. Cereal, coffee, chicken, bread, paper towels.
Prices went up, obviously, everyone knows that part.
But last month she noticed something else. Something she almost missed.
SHE DID THE MATH OUT LOUD IN THE BREAK ROOM. BY THE TIME SHE FINISHED, NOBODY IN THE ROOM COULD LOOK AT HER.
My coworker's rent just went up $600. Her raise this year was $40 a month. Yesterday she pulled out her phone in the break room and started doing the math out loud, and I don't think any of us were ready for what she found.
She's been here 4 years. Good reviews. Never one to complain.
Landlord renewed her lease last month. $1,450 โ $2,050. She said she just signed it, moving would've cost more upfront than she has.
Then the raise came through. After the review, the meeting, the whole process. $40 more a month. Before taxes.
She didn't say anything at first. Just opened her calculator app.
Nobody's confused. You can want independence AND want a partner, those aren't opposites. What's actually happening is people expecting perfect matches to just appear without doing the work modern dating requires from everyone, not just one side.
"Women are happily single"
"Men are lonely because women don't want them."
โWomen started making money and caring about character, and all of a sudden there is a male loneliness epidemicโ
"Men need marriage and relationships more than women."
"Men push for marriage because they want a slave."
If you don't want to be a slave to a man, why are you attending singles events?
Why are you creating all these events and attending them, then complaining that lonely men aren't showing up?
I thought y'all didn't need men?
I thought itโs men thatโs lonely?
