The demolition of the historic mosque located within the Saharanpur Collectorate is extremely regrettable. This action has once again raised a fundamental question, if the Constitution and the law are equal for everyone, why is a double standard evident in their implementation? Today, bulldozers are increasingly becoming less a symbol of justice and more an instrument of the politics of revenge, prejudice, and hatred.
This is not merely a matter concerning a mosque; it raises fundamental questions about the supremacy of the Constitution, the rule of law, religious freedom, equality of citizens, and the impartial role of the state.
The Places of Worship Act, 1991 remains in force. Similarly, the new Waqf law also contains a provision relating to “Waqf by User.” The said mosque is registered with the Waqf Board under Registration No. 451, while old land records also contain the names of Yaqub Khan and Wahid Khan. The mosque committee had presented documents dating back to 1911, municipal records, and old revenue entries before the court, maintaining that the mosque predates the present Collectorate building. Ignoring such historical and legal evidence and proceeding with demolition raises serious questions about the requirements of justice.
If illegal occupation or encroachment is the criterion for taking action, then the same standard must be applied equally to every religion and every section of society. In different parts of the country, does the administration also take action against other religious structures that have stood for decades on government land, roads, and public places with the same haste, severity, and standard? If not, then the extraordinary harshness shown against one particular religious site appears contrary to the principle of equal justice.
India does not belong to any one religion or community. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, and followers of all religions share this country as their common homeland. The Constitution has not made anyone a first-class citizen and anyone else a second-class citizen.
We are not seeking any special concession; we are only asking for equal justice. Our question is straightforward: if the law applicable to a mosque is the same, why should it not be applicable to every religious place? If one standard is applied to a Muslim, why should the same standard not be applied to every other citizen? If the Constitution and the law are meant for everyone, then their protection and enforcement must also be equal for all.

अब सारे नेता कह रहे हैं कि संविधान की धज्जियाँ उड़ा दी गईं। सवाल यह है कि ये धज्जियाँ बचेंगी कैसे? तब एक ही रास्ता बचता है, और वो रास्ता संघर्ष का है, जिस जेल से ‘डराया’ जा रहा है, उसी जेल भरो आंदोलन का है। कितने ऐसे नेता हैं, जो संव���धान की उड़ती धज्जियों के खिलाफ जेल भरो आंदोलन शुरू कर सकें? कुछ माननीय कह रहे हैं कि उन्हें ‘हाउस अरेस्ट’ कर लिया गया। यह अजीब कुतर्क है! ये ऐसे नेता हैं जिनकी पार्टी के सुप्रीमो जहां जाना चाहते हैं, वहां वो पहुंच ही जाते हैं, भले ही कितना बंदिशें लगी हों!

This person is a sitting Member of the National Human Rights Commission and is abusing his office to target a minor child, promote fake narratives further threatening her life, engage in partisan political issues, and mislead the public.

It is a sad reflection of the pathetic state of affairs in this very important institution meant to uphold human rights.

NHRC Chairperson Justice V. Ramasubramanian should immediately clarify whether he supports this conduct of his colleague.

He must IMMEDIATELY censure and withdraw all work from this habitual offender.

The Government of India should initiate steps to remove this person from this very important post on grounds of “unsound mind and mental incapacity” and advise the President of India accordingly. Such a person in such a post is a threat to every minor, especially those belonging to Dalit community, and for human rights in our country.

He would be better off in a political party that can bear such baggage.
