Death Penalty overturned for our brother Anojan Sivarasa. Thanks to everyone who voiced out. And never forget the deafening silence of those pretentious hypocritical "Tamil" warriors.
@WSJopinion The hypocrisy would have been less naked if Trump bought diesel from India, as Europeans do. Of course Indian diesel may be refined from Russian oil, but that's just a detail. See, Europeans are so civilized!
Whenever arrogance & ignorance, guided by the desire for obscene Profiteering, wearing the garments of 'peacemakers', have united under one flag, why is that flag too often British or European ? Why the planet-consuming hunger ? When will be enough ?
A mother is crying and holding a placard to save her son’s life. Anojan is a young man from Sri Lanka facing execution for a Facebook post. Let’s raise our voice for him. #SaveAnojan
shining example of even handed ethics. ok, part of the bile is because she's of indian origin, but still navi pillay's track record is definitely patchy.
but then, it is par for the course for nobel peace prizes, including the ones for kissinger and obama.
Navi Pillay’s record should raise far more than serious questions about the Nobel Committee’s judgment. It should disqualify her as a recipient of the peace prize.
🔴 When a car bomb struck Denmark’s embassy in Pakistan after Danish newspapers republished the Muhammad cartoons, former Danish foreign minister Per Stig Møller says Pillay’s advice was not to defend freedom of expression, but to introduce censorship.
🔴 Her response to Charlie Hebdo was no better. She called the magazine “doubly irresponsible” for publishing Muhammad cartoons, described them as “malicious and deliberately provocative,” and said she “fully understands why people wish to protest strongly.” In other words, when Islamists answer speech with threats and murder, Pillay’s instinct is to rebuke those exercising free speech rather than the extremists.
🔴 In 2022, Pillay defended fellow UN commissioner Miloon Kothari after he invoked the antisemitic trope of a “Jewish lobby” controlling social media and questioned Israel’s UN membership. Kothari later apologised. A planned event honouring Pillay at Berlin City Hall was cancelled after the mayor withdrew support.
🔴 In 2010, she declined to attend the Nobel ceremony for the imprisoned Chinese democracy campaigner Liu Xiaobo, citing a low-level scheduling conflict in Geneva, as Beijing pressured foreign officials to boycott the event.
🔴 At the antisemitic Durban II conference in 2009, Pillay remained seated while Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad delivered his tirade against Israel and Western delegations walked out. She condemned the speech afterwards—but later admitted that she had been “naive” about Ahmadinejad.
🔴 And a review of her first two years as UN human-rights chief found no public statements by Pillay on human rights abuses in dictatorships as Cuba, North Korea, Eritrea, Saudi Arabia, Sudan or Belarus.
This is the track record on which the Nobel Committee—and a chorus of commentators around the world—now celebrate this activist as a champion of human rights, freedom and peace. Despicable.
@rkvweb there was onam then. now onam is 'secular' too. but to be honest, there are more people celebrating Ganesh chaturthi, more going to thiruvallam for karkitaka vavu, etc.
@stellensatz insightful point that "LLMs are not the be-all of genAI". in other words, not just stochastic-parrot behavior, but genuinely new insights can be generated by machines. (but that's not what's happening with openAI and navier-stokes etc, is it? I think that's shakespeare monkeys).
prof @stellensatz, this google deep mind expert wants to build truly self-learning systems, rather than just hoover up human learning. https://t.co/JVijjVRzUD
@stellensatz i think of it as emergent collective intelligence exhibited eg. by a beehive or anthill which is much greater than what the individual elements normally exhibit. that is, the group behavior magically is higher-order intelligence. scary thought in relation to robots.
#nvidia acknowledges the #LLM war, and moves to come out on top whoever wins: 'open' (ie "Linux" model) or proprietary (ie "windows" model). smart move. hedging, exactly as I said India should do in my article: play in the white spaces whoever wins https://t.co/Drlw3oRSf2
#replug. india's best strategic bet in the #generativeAI hype: keep out of the #LLM wars, focus on applications and hardware. that way whether US Big Tech wins ("windows" model) or Chinese open-weight does ("linux" model) india occupies the #whitespaces https://t.co/JC9g2nrCGK
@stellensatz emergent behavior is fascinating. I have heard of this in the context of simple entities (eg. ants) creating sophisticated cultures when en masse. or the murmuration of starlings. I guess the 'wisdom of crowds' too.
@stellensatz thank you, prof @stellensatz, for the detailed explanation of the techniques David Silver invented at Deep Mind. I wonder if machines can learn in truly different ways (I remember AlphaGo came up with tactics humans hadn't ever thought of).
@Fintech03 Thumba is in Trivandrum, a tier-2 town like Cochin. for some reason north indians think KERALA = cochin. a DEL exec wanted to attend a meeting in vizhinjam, Trivandrum's port. his staff flew him to Cochin: he realized his error, took vande bharat, missed meeting by 3 hours 🤦
What this young policewoman did was breaking the shackles of slavery.
Priyanka & her family epitomize the feudalist, uncouth elite of India, no matter if worth billions in corruption money, who see Indians as slaves deserving only to be beaten.
