A client of mine believed Zerodha was completely free. That's the pitch most people walk in with.

He invested his full amount and didn't log back into his account for months. Full-time job, demat account was the last thing on his mind - that's true for most professionals.

Then he checked his ledger.

₹75 + GST, deducted every quarter since day one. Nothing dramatic on its own. But it kept accumulating quietly, and once the balance went negative, Zerodha added interest on top of it. So now it wasn't just AMC — it was AMC plus a delayed payment charge, compounding on an account nobody was watching.

@zerodha , @Nithin0dha - you already let people prepay AMC for up to 5 years. Why stop there? Give investors a genuine one-time lifetime AMC option.

Let people pay once and be done with it, instead of leaving quarterly deductions to quietly snowball into debit balances.( Most other brokers have this facility available

"Discount broker" was never a promise of zero charges.

But charges that compound silently in the background, on accounts people forget to check — that's a design problem, not a disclosure problem.
