I’ve always loved the political cartoon tradition in The Sydney Morning Herald. This budget felt like a moment that deserved one.

If these measures were genuinely about intergenerational equity, the Government could have considered an age-based cap on negative gearing, a phase-out, or another reform that asked the established property-owning class to share the burden.

Instead, the old guard keeps its tax advantages through grandfathering, while younger Australians are asked to believe this was done for them.

We should expect more from politics than slogans, staging and salesmanship. Australians deserve policy content, not just political theatre.
