I was blessed to see the best sunset of the year and one of the best that I've seen. It was just at a run of the mill flat lake, so I was incessantly looking for intersecting lines and a pleasurable composition. What I was seeing was the way the orange light was bouncing off and enhancing the shoreline. Hopefully you like it.

A 2,350 year old 40-kilo vessel that shines like gold but contains not a speck of it.

The Derveni Krater is the most elaborate metal vessel from the ancient world, made around 330 BC, probably in Athens, a 90 cm tall bronze krater.

The golden glow comes from bronze with about 15% tin: a technical masterstroke, not gilding.

Large bronze vessels like this almost never survived the ancient world because they were melted down for weapons or coins.

This one survived intact as a tomb urn near Thessaloniki, which is why it is one of the great surviving works of Greek metalwork.

Wishing you a magnificent magical Friday as we rush towards another weekend. Here’s a recent commission I undertook.

With no new permits filed again this week for Starbase LA, I figured I would overlay the render on the map to see what that looks like. The location and size of the launch complex area is confirmed by both the soil boring points and the canals in the render (which are the actual canals on the property).

I tried to label things best I could but I know there are people following me that are way smarter than me. Feel free to let me know what you think and I can tweak this map accordingly. Keep in mind these are just conceptual renders and what they actually construct could be drastically different. We are just having fun waiting on permits 😂
