Why are all ours service roads two-way by default? The ones running parallel to high-traffic roads, like the GST Road in Chennai, should be left one-way to reduce congestion at major junctions.

It’s just absolute madness otherwise.

Driving around Chennai yesterday, it was disgusting to see the authorities and local bodies do such great work beautifying pathways, shielding dust from construction sites, clearing illegal parking and what not—all of which they were supposed to do on an everyday basis for all of us.

If you were involved in this beautification drive, please know you’re absolutely good for nothing.

For years, maybe a decade, I've wanted to build a writing tool that just did a few things I couldn't find anywhere else.

A system that mimicked how I think when I write. A system that provided clear affordances, features, and places to do the things I wanted to do. A way to play with my writing as I'm writing it. A way to settle into just the right way to say something.

It never made sense to make it a 37signals product because it's not commercially viable, nor would it be worth pulling people off their other work to hack on this. Plus, it would have taken months the old way.

So this weekend I just made it myself, with Claude's help.

It's called Write_On and the short video walks you through it.

Essentially it's "alternative control" at the word, sentence, and paragraph level, plus a way to dim stuff back, and stash stuff near by. Not version control, but alternative control. You'll see what I mean when you watch the video below.

On a personal note, it was an honour to be the host of the milestone edition of Zoholics, the first of its kind at our home in Chennai. Had a lot of fun bringing on stage some very talented colleagues with whom I've spent more than a decade with.

What was even more fun was to deliver the final "thank you", drop the mic, and run to the courtyard to join my band who was performing for the evening. Little did we know the performance would soon turn into a mini jam session with some very unexpected guest singers on stage 😬 (Swipe through the pics to know who!)

The actors couldn’t have done a better job.

Whether me or you agree with the plot or not, it’s the best tamil movie to come out this year for me 🙏
