Should Jawaharlal Nehru be credited
with setting up India’s first IIT as is
claimed by Nehruvian fantasists?

NO.

Should PM Modi be credited with setting up seven new IITs, taking the total to 23?

YES.

Nehru did not ‘create’ IITs. Nor did he set up India’s first IIT.

Dr BC Roy, CM of West Bengal, set up India’s first IIT in Calcutta in 1950; it later moved to Kharagpur on land owned by West Bengal Government.

IIT Kharagpur Act came six years later in 1956.

Soviet Union set up IIT Powai; US set up IIT Kanpur; West Germany set up IIT Madras (all of them with trade surplus and aid).

The idea of setting up Indian institutes of technology took shape in 1946 with Humayun Kabir leading the way and Nalini Ranjan Sarkar Committee preparing a report. Extant records do not mention any role played by Nehru.

So,

Why was the first IIT set up in #WestBengal ?

Because in 1950s West Bengal had the highest concentration of industry in #India.

What went wrong?

Nehru's Freight Equalisation Policy killed industry in West Bengal and all of east India. West Bengal became the 'Disinherited State'.

2022లో కేంద్ర ప్రభుత్వం 50:50 భాగస్వామ్యంతో మంజూరు చేసిన ప్రతిష్టాత్మక ₹229 కోట్ల IIFT పొన్నాడ ప్రాజెక్టుకు కేంద్రం తొలి విడతగా ₹36 కోట్లు విడుదల చేసింది.

అయితే అప్పటి ��గన్ ప్రభుత్వం రాష్ట్ర వాటా నిధులు విడుదల చేయకపోవడంతో కొంత మేర పనులు జరిగి, ప్రాజెక్టు దాదాపు రెండేళ్ల పాటు నిలిచిపోయింది.

ఎన్డీయే ప్రభుత్వాలు అధికారంలోకి వచ్చిన తర్వాత, పిఠాపురం ఎమ్మెల్యేగా శ్రీ @PawanKalyan గారి నాయకత్వంలో కాకినాడ ఎంపీ శ్రీ @tangella_uday గారు ఈ ప్రాజెక్టును ప్రతిష్టాత్మకంగా తీసుకుని పలుమార్లు స్థలాన్ని సందర్శించి, కేంద్ర-రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వాలతో సమన్వయం చేస్తూ పనులు పూర్తి చేయించారు.

నేడు IIFT పొన్నాడ ప్రాజెక్టు 100% పూర్తై కార్యకలాపాలు ప్రారంభించడానికి సిద్ధంగా ఉంది.

రెండేళ్లు నిలిచిపోయిన ఒక ప్రాజెక్టును పూర్తిచేసి విద్యార్థుల భవిష్యత్తుకు అంకితం చేయడం నిజంగా పిఠాపురం నియోజకవర్గానికి గర్వకారణం.

ఈ రోజు ఇచ్చాపురం లోని రైలు ట్రాక్ పక్కన జోన్ పరిధి ప్రారంభం అయ్యే స్వాగత ఫలకాన్ని ప్రత్యక్షంగా చూసాను. ఇది మా ప్రాంత అభివృద్ధి యాత్రలో ఒక కొత్త అధ్యాయం ప్రారంభానికి ప్రతీకగా నిలుస్తుంది. ఈ గొప్ప సందర్భానికి గుర్తుగా ఓ మొక్కను నాటడం ఆనందంగా ఉంది.

The commencement of the South Coast Railway Zone is an emotional and long-cherished dream fulfilled for the people of Andhra Pradesh, especially Uttarandhra.

Today was a truly special moment as I witnessed the welcome plaque of the South Coast Railway Zone along the tracks near Ichchapuram, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter in our region's development journey. On this historic occasion, I also planted saplings near the welcome board, marking this milestone.

Throughout my tenure as a Member of Parliament, the Railway Zone remained a matter of special focus and commitment. Seeing this vision become a reality is immensely satisfying and heartening.

Work backward from the cap table. At $1.75T, clearing $100M takes ~0.0057% of the company.

- 2002–2008, first ~500 in: joined at a ~$50M company. Held to $1.75T = a 17,000x. The core of the club — maybe 150–250 left holding

- September 2008, SpaceX has first successful launch

- 2010–2016: joined at $1B–$10B. Needs a senior grant — directors, principal engineers, early Starlink. ~100–200

- C-suite + board: Shotwell, Johnsen past $1B. A layer of SVPs below them clears $100M on equity, not salary. ~20–40

- Post-2016: joined at $20B–$350B. To hit $100M you'd have needed ~0.4% of the company. Impossible for an employee. This is the millionaire tier — almost none reach $100M

The tally:
~400–500 at $100M+
A few dozen above $500M
A handful of billionaires past Musk

Same building. Same mission. Two orders of magnitude apart — set entirely by what year you walked in.
