Today we kick off a week of appreciation for all of our GISD teachers. May you enjoy a week of gratitude for all you give to your students and colleagues each day, knowing that your gifts keep giving far beyond the end of the school year. #Tier1Day1@GISDTLD @GISDLiteracy
Awesome afternoon using the GISD CLC planning document to facilitate making teacher exemplars and toolkits for active monitoring. @Bussey_Owlets are progressing every class period!
@jarredamato Consistent, predictable time for it, knowing their reading level to match them with the right book for them, and giving it purpose by relating it to what they learn each day.
Some interesting ideas for setting up your secondary classroom. Big kids deserve an interesting and welcoming environment, too!

In my 14th year of teaching, I finally realized the power of telling my students they are the true reason I come to work every single day. Their responses are surprising as I assume they just know they are why teachers are here, but they don't and they need to. @teacher2teacher
I got a chance to chat with Olivia Ramirez to talk about literacy for @brooklynmag, my hometown magazine! ❤️🏙️🙂 Check out the article here! https://t.co/JksE1U4SDK
Providing meaningful literacy exchanges with texts is my single, central, organizing principle to help students protect themselves and avoid surrendering their life chances before they realize their life choices. This is the power of literacy. AWT
What’s measured grows. So let’s encourage students to measure their daily reading progress, then celebrate as the volume grows! https://t.co/4XZtlcSmNz
Wondering how to help more districts automatically tie school IDs to public library cards. Lack of access to library resources is yet another disparity when undocumented families are understandably reluctant to show ID to get their kids access.
These sweet readers gave me my favorite compliment today. “What?! It’s time to go already?? NO! Why does this class always go so FAST??!” 😊🤸♂️ @BlalackMS #bmsbears#letthemread#tcrwp
