With 44 days until the college baseball season, we turn our attention to Hudson Calhoun who will wear jersey number 51 for the Rebels this season. Hudson is a 6'4" 190 lb true freshman out of Tupelo, Miss. The long, slender framed Calhoun is a high waisted RHP with a projectable build out of the McCallie School as the second highest ranked RHP in Mississippi's Class of 2023. Hudson uses a highly repeatable, low effort rocker step into a high leg lift delivery to the plate. The young power pitcher stepped onto campus this fall and increased his fastball velo that only topped out in the low 90s in his prep career to 94 mph. As Calhoun adds strength to his frame, the life on his fastball coupled with his ability to locate anywhere on the plate will serve him well at the college level and beyond. Hudson's secondary offerings include a short breaking slider and a looping 12-to-6 curveball that he lands for strikes. Expect Rebel HC Mike Bianco to work Hudson Calhoun in for short relief especially during the nonconference portion of the schedule so that he can gain valuable experience and get needed innings before conference play. If all goes well early then Hudson can find himself being rewarded with even longer outings later in the season. Most important for this season is Calhoun's physical development into a potential high velo command pitcher who profiles to compete for spot in the starting rotation as early as 2025. There are a lot of things to like about this young righty, and he adds even more depth to what is expected to be a strong bullpen for the Rebs.
