The untimely demise of Thiru Karumuttu Kannan Thiagarajan earlier today has left a large void in Madurai, and far beyond.
The scion of an illustrious business family, Thiru Kannan made his mark far beyond the industrial sector, including education (where he served as the correspondent and visionary leader of many institutions of excellence) and the administration of temples, to instantiate just two of many fields.
Beyond his outsized role in Tamil Society, I was privileged to count him as a friend and a mentor, as he was a little older than I am, and far more experienced.
As he often stated, we inherited our relationship from our respective forefathers. But he ensured that it grew through constant affection and concern.
Our respective responsibilities, and his illness (I wasn’t aware of the seriousness until very recently), had made our interactions sporadic in recent months. Yet, by divine grace, I spent over an hour with him this past Friday, upon my return to Madurai from a pilgrimage to Sabarimalai.
I learnt today that I was the only visitor he had received in his last weeks, and that he had accepted my request to meet despite being in poor health, citing our shared multi-generational history.
I consider the time I was with him, so close to his passing, among the great blessings of my life.
My last words to him on Friday were, "I'll come back to see you very soon." To my great sorrow, he has left us before I was able to keep my commitment.
All victory and defeat in life are temporary, with the exception of mortality. In his case, the loss is not just to his family and the many institutions he built and ran so ably; it is to our entire society and country.
I pray the almighty gives his family strength and solace during this time of great grief.
Reading a Novel 📖 is Always "EPIC" 😀
E - Entertainment for many hours
P - Participation as a character
I - Imagination of scenes, people....
C - Concentration on a single task

It is high time that we all begin to behave like the Germophobe 'Sheldon' from 'The Big Bang' TV series 😉 Its the only faultless method to prevent the Covid spread in this festive & cold season 🙂
There's a difference in 'Safety features' deployment when someone(regulatory body) enforces a company to do so and when a company self-align itself with the passenger safety requirements 🚘☺️ News like "Airbag didn't deploy inspite of frontal collision" are results of 1st type😉
It has never been about ratings or stars, and it’s not about mandated standards.
