I have been reading a lot of people saying that the some faiths have taken out of the Bible a few books
Well as a Greek Orthodox and very faithful to the point that my cross on my neck doesn’t come off
My opinion is this
Orthodox Bible generally contains more Old Testament books than Protestant Bibles and, in some versions, more than the Catholic Bible. (Catholic churches and the Vatican have the same Bible as orthodox since they are the first churches)
The New Testament is the same across the major Christian traditions.
The additional books in the Old Testament are called deuterocanonical or apocryphal texts and were included in the Septuagint, a Greek translation of the Hebrew Bible (Torah) used by early Christians
Protestant Bibles
contain 66 books. They removed the deuterocanonical books, considering them less authoritative than the books in the Hebrew canon (but they still have them on the side but not on the books they give to majority)
Catholic Bibles
include the deuterocanonical books, which brings their total to 73 books
Orthodox Bibles
We have 2 (let’s call them different) resulting to 77 books which each household usually has
Our clergy our churches monasteries include even more books, reaching a total of 81 books or more up to 88
If the Vatican as you all mentioned did as you say and hide those books, how did you all find out what books they took off?
The Orthodox Church, emphasizing Holy Tradition, includes texts that were widely used and read within the early Church and were part of the Septuagint
Protestant reformers, in the 16th century, adopted the Masoretic Text as the basis for their Old Testament, which has a shorter canon
The Bible is an anthology (a compilation of texts of a variety of forms) originally written in Hebrew (with some parts in Aramaic) and Greek.
The texts include instructions, stories, poetry, prophecies, and other genres
The first translation of the Torah was into Greek, known as the Septuagint, beginning around the 3rd century BCE for the Greek-speaking Jewish diaspora in Egypt.
While Aramaic Targums also began as early translations during the Babylonian exile for the common people, the Septuagint was the earliest, comprehensive translation of the Hebrew Bible into a widely understood lingua franca.
And it wasn’t translated by Greeks but by jewish scholars of that time
Septuagint" is Latin for "seventy" and comes from the legend that 72 Jewish scholars were involved in the translation, according to the Letter of Aristeas
Greek had become the dominant language in the Eastern Mediterranean after the conquests of Alexander the Great, and many Jews no longer spoke Hebrew, necessitating a translation to make the scriptures accessible to them
Now to all of you who think that by removing a few books will make a difference if added well at the end of the day (and do not forget it)
Christianity is Love and forgiveness
Better yet my fav part of the Bible are these 3 magical and magnificent words
"Love, Faith, Hope"
refers to three key virtues, often mentioned together in Christianity as described in 1 Corinthians 13:13, where it states "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love".
While all three are important, this verse highlights love as the most significant.
The virtues are seen as mutually reinforcing, providing strength, inspiring positive actions, and fostering a deep connection with God or a greater purpose in life
So please when you say that books are taken out and hidden from people
Please go and read any orthodox Bible if you are that curious
Again my opinion but you can all do your own research and I always accept criticism cause by God we are all perfect humans made by our creator but I will never be a perfect man as I learn daily and make mistakes always
I celebrate my Birthday today with a heart full of gratitude to God and all of you for your continued love and support. Every wish and prayer that comes my way today, I wish same and more unto all of you as well. May God continue to keep us.
