A meeting was held at the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus (WPC) Office between Secretary WPC, Dr. Shahida Rehmani; Chairperson Special Committee on Gender Mainstreaming, Dr. Nafisa Shah; and Treasurer WPC, Shahida Begum and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Pakistan, Rongvudhi Virabutr.
The meeting focused avenues for enhancing cooperation between Pakistan and Thailand in the areas of women’s empowerment, political participation, economic inclusion, and peacebuilding.
At the outset, the participants conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the people and Royal Family of Thailand on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati and expressed solidarity with the people of Thailand during this difficult moment.

Welcoming the Ambassador, Dr. Shahida Rehmani highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between Pakistan and Thailand and emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral ties.

She underscored the role of the Women’s Parliamentary Caucus as a bipartisan platform advancing women’s rights, gender equality, and inclusive governance.

Dr. Rehmani noted that Pakistan and Thailand could benefit from greater cooperation and exchange of experiences in areas such as women’s economic empowerment, digital inclusion, gender-responsive budgeting, leadership development, and parliamentary engagement on gender equality.

Pleasure to participate In the #NationalWomenJournalistsConvention in #Islamabad. I can see my self in each of these brave faces as I started my career as a journalist in #Newsline. Women journalists continue to face discrimination both inside the newsroom and in the wider world. There are other challenges, online harassment, safety, and uneven representation. I hope to host a special meeting in #GendermainstreamingCommittee in the parliament taking up their recommendations or memorandum with in the parliament to see how we can work towards gender equality and gender justice in the media.

While honouring our workers, let us call for organisational power. Pakistan People’s party #PPP had in the 70s, then again in 20s, made progressive labour laws, and set up institutions for their welfare which continue to serve the workers. However our workers continue to be voiceless because they are not extensively organised. Today, only around one per cent of #Pakistan’s workforce is unionised, leaving most workers without representation. Organisation is needed not only in factories, but also among agricultural, home‑based, and domestic workers, who remain largely unrepresented.
The same is true for students. Without organised student councils, they have little protection for their rights which includes quality education—just as unorganised workers lack security around fair wages, health and safety. It is time for citizens and civil society to organise into strong, inclusive associations and for the state to facilitate workers to have an organised voice. #InternationalLabourDay2026 #HappylabourDay2026
