GRSE has launched ‘Shruti’, the Indian Navy’s second Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessel (NGOPV), in Kolkata.

With around 85% indigenous, Shruti is part of GRSE’s contribution to the Navy’s wider 11-ship NGOPV programme.

At ~3,000 tonnes and 113m long, the vessel can reach 23 knots and has an endurance of 8,500 nautical miles at 14 knots. It is designed for maritime surveillance, interdiction, anti-piracy, special operations, mine warfare, counter-infiltration, HADR and search & rescue.

India has once again rejected China’s objections over Arunachal Pradesh, with MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterating that the state is an “inalienable and integral part of India” and that nothing can change this reality.

The statement comes after India formally identified 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh by their standard names on the official Survey of India map, including strategically and historically significant places such as Long Ju, Thag La, Jairampur and Jaswant Garh.

Beijing’s attempts to assign Chinese names to locations in Arunachal Pradesh cannot alter India’s sovereignty or the ground reality.

India has also reiterated that peace and tranquillity along the LAC remain essential for the broader India-China relationship.

RAW chief Parag Jain met Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman’s Defence Affairs Adviser Brig Gen (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam in Dhaka on August 10, leading a four-member Indian delegation.

The visit followed an invitation from Bangladesh’s DGFI and was described by diplomatic sources as part of regular RAW–DGFI engagement.

The meeting comes amid renewed India–Bangladesh tensions over Sheikh Hasina, her extradition demand and uncertainty over Tarique Rahman’s participation in the upcoming BRICS Summit.

Alongside the intelligence-level engagement, Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi also met Rahman—signalling that New Delhi is keeping both security and diplomatic channels active despite ongoing strains.
