Context/Details:
Florida prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for Oscar Adrian Solis Jr., a 30-year-old MS-13 gang member, following the brutal murder of an Uber Eats driver, Randall Cooke, aged 59.
The incident occurred on April 19, 2023, when Cooke was delivering food and was forcibly taken into Solisโ home in Holiday.
Inside, Cooke was stabbed 35 times and then dismembered, with parts of his body, including a foot in a black sock, found in trash bags. Solis was seen disposing of these bags with another individual.
State Attorney Bruce Bartlett filed a notice to seek the death penalty against Solis, who has been indicted for first-degree murder and abuse of a dead human body. The decision was influenced by the particularly heinous nature of the crime.
Bartlett expressed his shock at the vile nature of the act and Solisโ nonchalant attitude while disposing of the body parts.
Sheriff Chris Nocco described the act as demonic, emphasizing that Cooke was merely a working man making his last delivery of the night.
Solis, who had only moved to Florida in January after being paroled from an Indiana prison, has a history of violent offenses, including stabbing a fellow inmate.
His criminal record was also considered an aggravating circumstance in the decision to seek the death penalty.
The final outcome is not detailed in the available reports.
