It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Ambassador Aziz Mekouar. His exceptional career, spanning nearly 50 years in service to his country, is a testament to his dedication and passion for diplomacy.

I first met Ambassador Mekouar in Rome in the early 80s, where he served as a counselor at the Moroccan embassy. His affability, courtesy, discretion, and humility made him an exceptional diplomat. He leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the honor of knowing him, particularly in Washington, where he contributed significantly to strengthening Moroccan-US relations.

I recall that our final exchange, last year in Casablanca at his bedside, gently returned to Washington, a city he held close to his heart, for the profound sense of purpose, dignity, and fulfillment it had come to embody in the path of his life and service.

He will be deeply missed, but above all, he will remain forever in the memory of those who had the privilege of knowing him. I extend my sincere condolences to his son, Camil, his family, and friends, as well as to the Moroccan diplomatic community.

May his soul rest in peace.

🏆 STADE PRINCE MOULAY ABDELLAH WINS STADIUM OF THE YEAR 2025

The 16th edition of the Stadium of the Year contest has officially come to an end. Fans of stadium architecture from around the world cast 7,451 votes, evaluating 28 stadiums opened globally in 2025.

Here is the final podium:

🥇 Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah (Rabat) – 14,481 points
🥈 Grand Stade de Tanger (Tangier) – 10,453 points
🥉 Claro Arena (Santiago) – 10,318 points

The winner, Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah, became a symbol of Morocco’s massive investment in sports infrastructure ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Built between 2023 and 2025, the new national stadium in Rabat holds around 69,500 spectators and forms part of a larger sports complex including an arena hall, athletics stadium and Olympic swimming pool.

Designed by Populous, the stadium features steep stands located very close to the pitch to enhance atmosphere, while its illuminated façade and modern infrastructure meet the highest FIFA standards.

🔴Ryad Mezzour : « La CAN 2025 a fait gagner 10 ans de développement au Maroc🇲🇦 »🔴

​Interrogé par les journalistes de France 24 au lendemain de la clôture de la CAN 2025, le ministre du Commerce et de l’Industrie, Ryad Mezzour, a livré une analyse lucide et ambitieuse sur l'héritage de la compétition. Si la défaite des Lions de l'Atlas en finale a laissé place à une certaine frustration sportive, le ministre a préféré mettre en lumière la victoire structurelle du Royaume. Pour lui, cet événement ne s'est pas limité au terrain de football ; il a été le moteur d'une transformation profonde, permettant au Maroc de franchir un palier de développement inédit sous l'impulsion de Sa Majesté le Roi.

​Sur le plan économique, les indicateurs présentés par le ministre témoignent d'une réussite sans précédent avec un effet multiplicateur de 1,82 sur les investissements engagés. Cette dynamique a permis de soutenir une croissance nationale robuste de 4,5 %, tout en générant environ 100 000 emplois nouveaux. Ryad Mezzour a également précisé que le secteur du commerce a profité d'un boom de la consommation estimé entre 25 et 30 %, prouvant que la compétition a irrigué l'ensemble du tissu économique local, bien au-delà des enceintes sportives.

​Le ministre a mis en avant la force de frappe de l'industrie marocaine, révélant que plus de 3 000 entreprises nationales ont activement participé aux chantiers de la CAN. Cette mobilisation générale constitue, selon lui, une « répétition générale » magistrale en vue de la Coupe du Monde 2030. Avec 80 % des infrastructures sportives déjà rentabilisées et un savoir-faire logistique désormais certifié, Ryad Mezzour a réitéré sa confiance absolue dans la capacité du Maroc à honorer ses futurs rendez-vous mondiaux au nom de tout le continent africain.
