A terrible and tragic flash flood has taken place at Gyirong in Tibet - China, and one of our Kailash groups was caught in it. While on their way back, they were at the immigration office when the flood occurred and the building and much of the town seems to have been flooded.

All of us, including the volunteers and support teams are deeply anguished and are doing our utmost to assist in the rescue. There has been no official information on the whereabouts of any of the people who were at the immigration office. We are working with the authorities to see if we can get to the location and stand ready to be part of the rescue efforts, regardless of the risk involved.

Of the 21 groups who are part of our Sojourn, 495 people have already returned safely. 743 people are currently in Tibet, 148 people are in Nepal, and 77 people were at the immigration center, and 3 volunteers in Timure, Nepal.

To the families and loved ones of those in our group and hundreds of others who are affected in the region, I share your pain and we are sparing no effort during this profoundly difficult time. I am personally in the region to ensure the best can be done in the given circumstances 🙏🏽- Sg

Ashes, Silence and Gratitude!
Yesterday I attended the last rites of a dear friend at the govt crematorium near her home, which is presently managed by the Isha Foundation.

Everyone has to leave, but how gracefully one leaves is what matters. She spent her last few days in total acceptance, absolutely no fear of what was coming!

She was not just a friend. At a time when I was struggling with health issues and mentally being low, she pointed me toward Isha Yoga, a step that has had a lasting impact on me!

There were already 2 families before us performing the processes. Clean ambience of the place and just the prescribed govt fees. Simple rituals were done to her mortal remains. Her husband bowed down to Linga Bhairavi Devi photo inside and lit the camphor which was kept on cowdung cakes and dried dharba grass over her.. and then we watched her being gently sent into the furnace!

An overwhelming feeling churned within me flushing out tears, silence wrapping up the whole space - life is so brief, why are we not even aware of this!

And I left the place..

The family would wait for about 45 mins to an hour to collect the ashes. They will be performing the Kalabhairava Karma at Isha - a ritual for the deceased, done by invoking Devi’s grace within a particular time span after death.

Isha currently operates 33 such crematoriums or Kayantha Sthanams in Tamilnadu in partnership with the State Govt.

Before leaving the place, I said farewell to someone whose influence will continue accompanying me, through yoga, everyday! 🙏🏽

Experiences with Maha Periyava: Lehyam

Periyava would get pain in the chest, often. When he suffered from this, he would not be able to eat anything at all. So I told Venkataramaiyer, the lawyer, about it. He would consult his Homeopathy books and give some medicine. In a day or two Periyava would be relieved of the pain. Venkataramaiyer was no Homoeopathy doctor, but he practiced relying on his books. Then after a while, we thought of seeking Ayurvedic remedy. So I went to Venkata Subbachar and told him about Periyava‟s suffering from frequent chest pain. He said “I am working in Venkataramana pharmacy and can give a good medicine. But I do not wish to give Periyava something that is already on the shelf and being sold. His body is sacred and immaculate. Give me a few days, get me the things I want and I will make it afresh and have it ready. He gave me a list of things he needed, about forty or so roots and herbs. I got him everything. When I took to him, he said, “What about the ghee?”

“You did not tell me to get it” I replied. So I got the clarified butter and honey too, which he wanted. Four days later I went back and Venkata Subbachar handed over two glass jars of the lehyam (medicinal paste made from natural ingredients such as herbs and extracts, cured in clarified butter and honey) to me. I brought it to Periyava.

“What is it?”

“Lehyam . . . prepared by Venkatasubbachar, for Periyava, for relief from pain in the chest.”

“Put it aside carefully!”

So I put it away with care. Sometime later, Nagamuthu, who looked after the cows came to Periyava. One of the cows had not taken the feed, did not chew the cud or drink water, and he was worried. Periyava told him to fetch the cow. It was brought and made to stand in front of Periyava. Periyava told me to put the lehyam on a piece of banana leaf and give it to the cow. So I scooped out the lehyam, placed it in on banana leaves and fed the cow. The cow was led away and later in the day, Nagamuthu reported that the cow was back to normal.

“Are you unhappy?” asked Periyava, because he had not taken the cure himself.

“Not at all. What Periyava wills, I am happy to accept . . .”

Periyava said, “Had I taken it that would have brought merit only to you, because you have arranged for the medicine for your guru. But now, look . . . the thirty three crores of divine beings dwell in the body of the cow. By curing the cow, you, I and the whole world is blessed!”
