This is data from the company that built giant Starship, pushed rocketry to the absolute limits of physics and caught a Super Heavy booster out of the sky in mid-air

SpaceX has spent more than two decades solving the hardest real-world problems in propulsion, manufacturing, materials, software and aerospace systems and is decades ahead of many space programs

Now that engineering knowledge will also help train Grok

You can expect much stronger engineering, manufacturing, aerospace and physical-world reasoning from the next model

This could turn Grok into one of the most capable engineering AIs ever built, making it far more useful for real‑world use cases and hands‑on engineering tasks

Legacy Media types are calling this Alex Karp interview a “crash-out” so that’s your first clue that he is actually saying something extremely insightful. He is articulating what real “AI safety” looks like in the enterprise.

Not abstract alignment research or certification by a government-run DMV for AI. Real AI safety for businesses is the ability to control their own data, model weights, and compute — so a frontier lab can’t hoover up their proprietary knowledge and turn it into their next product.

As Karp explains, technical customers want “control over their compute, their models, their data stack, and their alpha. They want to know they own the means of production, and it’s not being transferred to someone else.”

Don’t think that can happen? Just look at Figma. According to The Information, Anthropic “blindsided” its then-business partner with the launch of Claude Design. Figma’s founder said Anthropic had not been “consistently honest” with them. Anthropic’s chief product officer had even served on Figma’s board until three days before the launch of Claude Design. Figma’s stock has fallen sharply this year while Anthropic’s valuation has surged.

This isn’t an isolated example. Anthropic has launched Claude Science, Claude Security, Claude Legal, and of course Claude Code — each expanding into categories previously served by companies building on top of their models. The pattern is consistent: watch where value is being created, then move in directly. Dominate the model layer, then use that position to capture the most lucrative verticals.

Dario has argued that open source models powerful enough to compete with Anthropic are “dangerous.” But dangerous to whom? Not to enterprises that want to retain control over their data and workflows. Dangerous to a business model that benefits from customers having few real alternatives at the model layer.

As Karp exposes, true enterprise safety isn’t trusting that a lab’s future roadmap won’t include your business. It’s retaining the ability to choose — at the model layer — who gets to see and use your alpha.

The January 29 Convergence: GL 46 and Venezuela's Hydrocarbon Reform.

On January 29, 2026, two simultaneous legal developments fundamentally restructured Venezuela's energy sector: OFAC issued General License 46, and the Venezuelan National Assembly approved a sweeping reform to the Organic Law on Hydrocarbons.

Understanding how these two instruments interact is essential for anyone evaluating opportunities in the Venezuelan energy sector. Together, they represent the most significant change to the legal framework since the 2001 Hydrocarbons Law.

The most significant changes for foreign investors:

1. Dismantling the State Monopoly

The reform ends the rigid state monopoly established in 1975 and reinforced in 2001. Private companies can conduct exploration and extraction directly, replacing the mandatory state-majority Empresa Mixta structure.

2. Commercialization & Arbitration

• Direct Commercialization: Private operators can market and export crude directly, ending the state's commercial monopoly (if they can demonstrate better pricing than state-owned entities).

• International Arbitration: The reform explicitly authorizes international arbitration, overturning the previous requirement that disputes be resolved exclusively in Venezuelan courts.

• Fiscal Regime: Royalties of up to 30% of production; and the extraction tax is replaced with a new up to 15% levy on gross monthly revenues (payable annually). The Government (executive power) can lower these rates and the income tax rate without the need for a formal law passed by the National Assembly.

3. GL 46's Restrictions

The Venezuelan law opens the door, but GL 46 controls who enters:

• Eligibility: Limited to U.S. entities organized before January 29, 2025.

• Payment Controls: All payments to blocked persons (GoV/PDVSA) must go into Foreign Government Deposit Funds (E.O. 14373), not standard commercial accounts.

• U.S. Law Required: Contracts must specify U.S. law as governing law, with dispute resolution in the United States.

• Prohibited Partners: No involvement by entities tied to China, Russia, Iran, North Korea, or Cuba. This creates substantial due diligence requirements for any joint venture or supply chain arrangement.

The Reality:

This is no longer a sanctions prohibition regime; it's a highly regulated permission structure.

The gap between what the law says and how it operates in practice, and whether the political situation stabilizes enough to provide genuine legal certainty, will determine the success or failure of new entrants in 2026.
