Arsenal winning league masked he’s a borderline flop. Not have enough output to justify mid all around game and doesn’t have the performances to justify mid output. Scored in 4 league games (2 of them against nearly relegated Spurs) and didn’t have an assist post September
The craziest part is,
Alvarez had less league goals (8) than Gyökeres (14) last season.
Alvarez had the same goals in all comps for cluba md country than Gyökeres last season (Both 29). If you count the World Cup, Gyökeres has more.
Alvarez was more injured/less available then Gyökeres last season.
Alvarez had less league G+A (12) last season than Gyökeres (15).
Remember when Gyökeres went 6 league games without scoring and people were flaming him? Alvarez went on a FOURTEEN-GAME scoreless streak last season in La Liga.
In the three matches between Arsenal and Atletico Madrid, Alvarez had less goals (1) than Gyökeres (3).
Yet, fans want us to give Gyökeres + pay Atletico money for him.
And this is while Alvarez plays in a two-man striker system in what most would consider a slightly weaker league. Gyökeres did this is a single-striker system... and we've seen how he's done in two-striker systems for Sweden.
Also, one player literally has us as his backup last resort (He has agreed personal terms with Barcelona already, but not with Arsenal. If Atletico had accepted Barca's offer, Alvarez would already be a Barcelona player. PSG know this and had the good sense to stop chasing a player who clearly doesn't value them as his first choice. That leaves only us), while the other did everything humanly possible to join us, then won us our first EPL trophy in 22 years.
On the contrary to Gabriel's miss, I have only one advice to Eberechi Eze that before the start of next season please lose weight and look fit on the pitch. 🤷♂️ That penalty was the most disgusting one I have ever seen from a 27 year old footballer, even worse than Gabriel's miss. Even if it had gone in, I would have said the same. Only reason people are tolerating him is because we won the Premier League and though he had his moments in some games, I am not insanely satisfied with his contributions. 🫤
Hincapié did more than him despite being injured in the game for so long. Today's penalty miss will remain in the mind of the fans, not for it being a miss but the way it was taken. Sluggish and childish and show-off kind of a player that totally disrespects his teammates' efforts with his theatrical style of play. 🙏
The miss itself isn’t even the issue here, it’s the body language, the nonchalant gimmick, the zero intensity after being subbed on in the extra time.
This is the UCL final for crying out loud.
Absolutely unacceptable!
I won't talk about Gabriel. He was Arsenal's man of the match and his penalty miss doesn't water down that performance but for Eze..
Two things can be true at the same time. This season Eze had some games that we all were wowed but it is also true that for a 27 year older football costing over £65m, he can be way too casual and that happened in many games this season.
Technically and tactically, he is at our level but not good enough mentally and in terms of work rate.
