26th May 1940, German forces resumed offensive toward Dunkirk.
Operation Dynamo ordered to commence.
There were 3 evacuation routes from Dunkirk to Dover: routes X, Y, and Z. Route Z was the shortest and southernmost route, followed by route X and route Y.
Approximately 850 private boats, commercial vessels, and pleasure craft took part in Operation Dynamo to rescue trapped Allied troops in 1940.
This armada was part of a larger, coordinated rescue mission that involved nearly 1,000 vessels of all sizes

This morning was a time for reflection and remembrance. 1st off a short service at The Sailors Church followed by a parade to place wreaths at the Dunkirk Memorial. Then parade to St George’s Church for a public Service of remembrance and laying of reefs at the cenotaph.
Last evening saw the magnificent projection of “Dynamo - the spirit of Ramsgate” on the cliff wall. Very evocative and poignant for this weekend. The QRA Corps of Drums put on an excellent display along the Parade. Well done to all involved
